They can, but then it's not really a friendship. If you feel it's taking more out of you than it is giving you, I'd suggest to move away from that relationship. It's not worth it if it's making you feel this way.
lyons-roar Thank you for a reply. It's getting super exhausting and to only be getting a tiny bit back. They only respond to things that directly relate to them, if I even begin talking about that something that doesn't have anything to do with them (something I did today, something I like, something i read and found interesting, etc etc etc the list could go on forever) they ignore it. I did an experiment when they didn't respond to something at all and sent them something relating directly to them and guess what? Response in less than a minute. It's so frustrating.
