okay so Lyonel/Maekar StormAnvil ABO AU p2! In my omegaverse AUs male omegas can only get pregnant during heats.
So Lyonel and Maekar pass themselves off as properly mated. But admittedly have little plan for when Maekar’s heat hits and there is a lack of pregnancy that follows. Lyonel wonders himself, but not all heats result in pregnancy so they can delay. Maekar says it will be fine. Fuck him and have the baby. Lyonel says he’s not in the mood to fuck Maekar.
ANYWAY meanwhile Baelor spends a week in the North absolutely fuming. However, Baelor is patient and he isn’t quick to irrationality. He knows the wedding has passed so he can’t save Maekar from mating Lyonel. He knows that Maekar had to be guilt-tripped into this marriage — he’d never agree to marry someone he barely knew. But Baelor does trust that Maekar can handle himself as is all right for now, so he stays in the North as a good heir to the throne for a week before he takes his family back down south. They will go via the vale of Arryn as well.
Baelor does send messages to both Lyonel and Maekar separately — that if they do not have a heat shared together, then the marriage can still be annulled, with some pressure from Belor on his Dad. He also writes that he will absolutely be visiting as soon as he can. He also tells Lyonel that he will be compensated. He’s being a good big brother. However, Daeron knew that Baelor would try and meddle, and had instructed the maester to intercept any messages to Storms End. They never reach their destination.
Meanwhile, in the immediate aftermath of the wedding, Maekar and Lyonel barely see each other. They take a few meals together for appearances but do not talk to each other, and then Lyonel disappears to talk with Stormland lords. Maekar trains in the yards. But he is bored. In Summerhall he was the respected Lord who managed the lands. Here’s he’s the consort of a Lord of lands he barely knows. He’s also upset that Baelor has made no attempt to contact him. He sends a crow to Kings Landing to be passed on to Baelor in the north, but keeps it vague because he knows it will likely be read (just ‘please message me’).
Lyonel isn’t too happy either. He refused to bed Maekar, but he’s not too sure what now. And now his house has someone walking around it!
Maekar considers riding for Summerhall to be with Daeron, but the Lord Baratheon and his wife (we don’t know much about it them) request that he doesn’t. Lyonel will be back soon and they want to get to know him. But Maekar avoids them and they do find him tiring. He participates in omega activities with the other omega spouses and members of court and he hates every moment of it. You’re not getting a good cross-stitch from him.
But they get news of the Spring Sickness. They will have to remain home, and not long after, Lyonel returns back to the castle upon the plague spreading. Knowing he will have to sequester here, he observes Maekar in the training yard and decides that he is at least a challenge.
“So, can I spar with the Anvil?” Lyonel asks.
Maekar looks at him. “Is that a request, or an order?”
“A request,” Lyonel confirms. “I doubt you’d listen to my orders anyhow.”
They spar. They’re both equally matched — Maekar is heavier with his mace, Lyonel quick with his sword. They trade blows.
They end up doing this most mornings. Lyonel may not like Targaryens but he has no reason to doubt Maekar’s prowess on the field as a Knight just because he’s an omega. He respects Maekar. And Maekar respects him decently enough.
Of course, sparring leads to more and more closeness and proximity. Eventually Maekar and Lyonel can feel each other getting aroused — after all, Lyonel did do a half-hearted bite on Maekar, they can feel each other a little, their scents getting excited.
So, eventually, Maekar pulls Lyonel into his room.
“Are we going to consummate this marriage properly?” He asks. He’s been sexually frustrated for days now and his hand isn’t cutting it. He misses Dyanna, but he also just misses companionship.
“You make it sound like a chore. I don’t consummate anything. I make love.”
Maekar snorts. It’s so cheesey it hurts. “So, you don’t intend to do anything.”
“Well,” Lyonel says with a grin. “I can fuck as well.”
And so, they do it. Lyonel is, embarrassingly for Maekar, really good in bed an attentive lover. He’s slept around a lot. And Lyonel is into Maekar. He always has tastes that aren’t conventional — he flirted with Alpha Dunk, because he enjoys Alphas in his bed. He’ll sleep with anyone but he does enjoy the masculine, the anvil himself is no bother to him — and pretty hot.
And Lyonel doesn’t bite him, even though it is right to do so, because he doesn’t feel the need to. They can still avoid Maekar’s heat. And they know this will happen again. Maekar felt pleasure for the first time in years, and this is a new sexual awakening for him that it’s fine for him to want again after Dyanna.
Meanwhile Baelor managed to get his family to the Vale before the borders locked. So he’s stuck in the vale, raging, but also trying to keep his family safe from the spring sickness.
(And King Daeron II is still alive. The timeline here is different, he didn’t catch the spring sickness because he was in different places at different times, butterfly effect and all that. If he died I was running into the issue of ‘why doesn’t new King Baelor, who can now send crows uninterrupted, just not contact Maekar and with his permission/revelation it wasn’t consummated annul the marriage?’ So Daeron will kick around for a year or more, obstructing any attempt to derail his alliance building).
