Please Donât Leave Quite Yet | Dougie & Lynn
It had been hours since Dougie received the text from Lynn, that she was leaving. For how long, he didnât know and he didnât want to ask. He only assumed it meant for good. No matter how fractured their relationship was at this point, one thing he was adamant about was that they left this, whatever they were, on a good note. Or at least, not a good note but... It all made a lot more sense in his head. No one could blame him; he was tired and he was hungry but he was also not in the mood to sleep or eat. Which only indiciated that he was far from okay, considering he cherished food like it was his firstborn.
Somehow, within the span of those many hours, he could not sit still. He was a mess, anyone with a pulse could see that. His hair was a mess, he had dark circles under his eyes from not sleeping and he had yet to change into a fresh pair of clothes but at that point, he didnât care. Somewhere along the lines, he found himself stood at Lynnâs apartment, the soles of his shoes planted firmly on the ground beneath him (that he wished would give way on him and sucker him into a hole, never letting him escape). He inhaled deeply, one hand balled into a fist as it rapped against the door. He knew it was late and that Lynn may well be asleep but... It was something he needed to do. Dougie even considered the fact that Gemini, Lynnâs roommate could have opened the door, but he just didnât care. His mind was swirling and his brain was dizzy and he just needed to get it all off his chest before it was too late.
Closing his eyes as he heard the sound of a door open, the words he uttered taking full control of his mind and body, flying out at a hundred miles per hour and he could barely catch his breath. âI know itâs late, and I know you probably donât want to see me. And I know that youâre going home tomorrow and this is just one huge mess and youâre sorry -- Iâm sorry too... and I know you think going home's gonna fix things and make things right... I have no right to stop you from going, so Iâm not gonna. Itâs just...â Dougie inhaled shakily, his eyes finally opening to look at her. Even if it was for the last time. He knew he was talking nonsense but the words just kept flowing; there was no way of shutting them out. âBut I know if I just let you leave without saying goodbye properly, then it will kill me. So here I am, and I donât look great but I can assure you I am fine and...â He sighed once more, shaking his head slightly as he tried to get his breath back from talking so much and so rapidly. âI just needed to know I said it. Otherwise, Iâll regret it and let it consume me entirely. And we deserve better than that... You deserve better than that."
