#YourAbsolutelyRightEP: www.normvlizm.com
āOne of the realest and most authentic lines on Your Absolutely Right is the opening lines on this song here, Indian Ocean, āThis is probably one of the hardest songs Iāve had to writeā.
I say this because I use music as a channel, a tool, and an avenue to let out my frustrations, my disappointments, heartbreak and general unhappiness, purely because whenever Iām at my happiest, I donāt immediately think of sitting down and writing a song. Channelling my negative emotions became a habit because Iād rather spend my āmiseryā alone getting whatever it is off my chest.
I ended up writing Indian Ocean in response to the writerās block I was getting. Being smothered in love and niceties, almost completely obliterating anything negative around, pain being my muse, was smothered up as well, into none existence eventually took notice of what was happening around me from a musical perspective, all the smothering and etc., and I just began to write about it. It took me an incredibly long time, think āFunny Howā instrumental, I knew exactly what I was feeling it was just difficult to convert it into a song. Indian Ocean isnāt a clichĆ© love song, it isnāt a love song period.
The song is about how the Indian Ocean (Iām based in Durban and my girlfriend is Indian) which is a few walks away from where I stay, calms me down. How it waters down my aggression, flows calmly onto my shore I heard the instrumental play in a mix by a Durban Hip Hop DJ named DJ SoKool, her SoundCloud, then I Whatsappād with questions until I then found the songās its producers on SoundCloud, Jrobb and Slater, under a playlist full of instrumentals they produced, for free download <winks>.
Initially I just wanted to use the beat as a springboard to create my own but I never got to complete for this particular song idea.ā - ByLwansta
