Life for Asher and Zoey had been mostly how Asher had imagined it. Theyād gotten settled into their apartment and Asher was working his days as a mechanic, taking on as many cars throughout the day as he could. It wasnāt easy, and most of the time he was lucky if he finished his work in time, but he was trying, and it was income. Zoey had managed to get a job at a lounge and thankfully her schedule worked well with her motherās, leaving someone always available to keep Eli.Ā
Things at the shop were starting to get slow for Asher, and as each day passed there was more and more bills arriving and less money coming into the house. With envelopes in hand, Asher sat at the table, going through the bills and deciding which ones were most important and which one they could put off. Eli was already sleeping, so, he didnāt have much of a distraction tonight. He came across an envelope that read the name of the apartment complex, and he swallowed, noticing immediately what was inside. An eviction notice. If they didnāt pay their rent by a certain date, theyād be forced to leave. He sighed and placed the note into theĀ āimportantā pile, before moving onto the next one.
