book asks, 17 and 20 :)
Answering these end of year book asks, ty!
17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?
Answered here but I'll also say The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix! I didn't have particularly high expectations going into it, I've been burned by too many mid books that fall too far short of their potential this year lol, but I just read this last week and I really enjoyed it!
20. What was your most anticipated release? Did it meet your expectations?
Hm, I'm actually not super up to date on new releases to be honest, but I'll say Lives of Bitter Rain by Adrian Tchaikovsky, which is a companion novella to Days of Shattered Faith which I happened to finish like a week before the novella came out lol but I then did have to wait forever for other people to read it before my reservation came through. And yes it definitely lived up to my expectations! I think Tchaikovsky is a fantastic worldbuilder, possibly the best I've ever read, and I really, really love the world he's crafted and everything he explores within it
