Photography Tutorial Part 2 - Luwian iPhone Academy of Photography
Let’s take a closer look at how to use each feature for your daily photography.
The quickest way to adjust focus and exposure is by touching the area of interest on the screen. If you want to separate the focus and exposure areas, you can split them after the initial setup. For instance, in this example, I wanted to focus on the leaves and give extra light to the boat and dock. After the initial focus and exposure setup, you can adjust more using the exposure ruler to achieve the lighting you desire.
When you select an area of interest, the focus and exposure buttons will automatically be activated. To change location, just tap on it and move your finger in a simple drag-and-drop movement.
In this scenario, despite the dark environment, there is sufficient artificial and city light to enable a basic exposure setup to take beautiful night photographs.
This time, I aimed to brighten up the city and Mount Fuji and direct the camera’s focus towards a magnificent temple. By doing so, the city, Mount Fuji, and the temple would have ample lighting, and the temple’s closer details would be captured sharply and clearly in the final image.

Photography Tutorial Part 1 - Luwian iPhone Academy of Photography
The manual camera mode is available on Luwian and provides complete control over the camera hardware. This feature permits adjustments to shutter speed, ISO, white balance, manual exposure control, zoom, and manual focus. The Luwian app supports a range of formats depending on your device, including JPEG, HEIF, TIFF, RAW, JPG+RAW, and Apple ProRAW.
The feature of Films & Filters can be employed to capture photos and videos with a vintage appearance, replete with a genuine color range.
Furthermore, the self-timer attribute is also available, enabling the user to capture images at predetermined 1 to 60-second intervals while operating in the continuous shooting mode. This feature is particularly useful for capturing lightning and other atmospheric events using a tripod or for ongoing events, selfies, and group photos.
Achieving the perfect lighting can make all the difference in your photos. That’s why having a reliable tool to handle light correction in different conditions is crucial. With the exposure setup, you can easily enhance the overall look of your images, capturing every detail with precision.

Panoramic Photography Tutorial Part 1 - Luwian iPhone Academy of Photography
The Panoramic mode in Luwian is distinct from the default camera app on iOS. Instead of capturing a single image, Luwian uses the traditional method and takes three images that are aligned and stitched together to create a high-quality, high-resolution panorama.
To capture a panorama with Luwian, it’s important to include objects such as buildings, trees, or people in each capture point. This allows the machine learning algorithm to identify the connection points and stitch together a single large panoramic image.
Depending on your scene, the resulting panorama image can be up to 60 megapixels, a high-quality one-piece image with intricate details.
Additionally, Luwian crops the image into three square pieces, which can be instantly shared on social media platforms such as Instagram.
Let’s watch two more examples of panorama capture done with Luwian camera software.

Long-Exposure Tutorial Part 1 - Luwian iPhone Academy of Photography
Photographers use neutral-density filters, also known as ND filters, to reduce the amount of light entering the lens. This is particularly useful when taking long-exposure photographs in daylight. In Luwian, we accomplish this by utilizing an algorithm and the power of the Graphic Processor Unit. This allows you to take and store high-resolution final images.
The camera’s frame rate is controlled by two ND adjustment rulers. The upper ruler decides the number of frames to stack in a one-second frame rate loop, while the second ruler controls the actual camera frame rate. The camera frame rate can range from 1 to 30 frames per second. Additionally, you can adjust the shutter speed up to a 1-second delay to achieve different results.
After making the necessary adjustments, press the shutter button and a sub-menu containing four options will appear. If you select “BULB,” then Luwian will require you to press the shutter button whenever it’s convenient for you. However, if you choose the 5, 15, or 30-second timer, then Luwian will automatically trigger the shutter button.

White Balance Tutorial - Luwian iPhone Academy of Photography
White balance is the process of adjusting the color temperature of your camera to ensure that white objects appear truly white in your footage. It is not just about the appearance of white but also affects the overall color balance of your shot. By setting your white balance properly, you can achieve accurate and realistic colors in your photographs or videos.
Color temperature is used to determine the warmth or coolness of an image. On the other hand, tint is used to specify the balance between magenta and green color casts. By adjusting both temperature and tint, you can effectively eliminate any uniform color cast from an image.
The white balance panel in Luwian offers three features: Auto, Preset, and Custom Adjust. It allows you to adjust the color balance of your images according to your preference.
By default, the white balance is automatic; upon opening the camera, it automatically adjusts the white balance to match the current environment.
10.1. Auto
Luwian comes with commonly used five preset white balance options: Sunny, Cloudy, Tungsten, Shade, and Flash.
10.2. Presets
10.2.1. Sunny
10.2.2. Cloudy
10.2.3. Tungsten
10.2.4. Shade
10.2.5. Flash
When the custom white balance mode is selected, it overrides previously selected white balance values and activates the tint value adjust ruler.

ISO Tutorial - Luwian iPhone Academy of Photography
In photography, ISO refers to the sensitivity of light in relation to either film or a digital sensor. It is a standard set by the International Standards Organization. When you increase the ISO number, your picture will be brighter.
However, it’s important to keep in mind that increasing ISO can also affect your final image quality in terms of graininess, especially when used in combination with high shutter speeds.
Activating the “ISO panel” also activates “Shutter Speed.” When “Exposure” is selected, both “ISO” and “Shutter Speed” adjust automatically.
Shutter Speed Tutorial - Luwian iPhone Academy of Photography
You can change the shutter speed on your camera to any value between 0 and 1 second. As you adjust it, you can see the changes on the Camera Status Bar.
Note that the maximum shutter speed setting for an iPhone is currently limited to 1 second. Use Luwian Neutral-density mode if you need to take photographs with a shutter speed longer than one second.
When you select the shutter speed, the ISO will also be manual. Shutter speed control is useful when you want a higher quality image, control over ISO, and long exposure at night or in a low-light environment.
