“Red String of Fate” B)
81. Our muses are destined to be high school sweethearts, but nothing more.
they meet in freshman year, after her piplup got loose in the school and he had been the one to catch it. their meeting then had been rushed, quick, but sometimes there's instances where touya finds himself believing in love at first sight. this is one of them. she's beautiful, with long, glossy hair and shining eyes that look like dark pools of water with stars glittering in them. he's smitten from the start. it takes her a little longer to realize her own feelings, after they've hung out a few times.
it starts with hand-holding and shy kisses, dates to the movie and local burger joint. touya manages to open up around her, to break himself out of his depressive stupor, to smile and laugh. but he's not in love.
it's pure teenage romance, destined to only last for a short period of time. they manage to make it through their senior year together, a few rocky roads they had to pass through their relationship. but he's still not in love. he can't see a future with her. he doesn't seem himself marrying her. he doesn't seem himself having children with her.
touya can't handle the tears when he breaks up with her before he heads off to start his journey in unova, while she begs him to come back to sinnoh with her. hikari's tears hurt. touya wants to kiss them away and assure her this isn't the end, but he knows not to lie to her. it's not pretty when she catches him in a lie.
the last time he sees her is when she pushes him away, running off before disappearing out of sight.
