In their headphones are their late bandmates, Ray Mazerek, whose keys are piped in to dance with Rami Jaffee’s new sounds, and Jim Morrison, whose voice from beyond will pick up after Lukas Nelson and Sierra Ferrell sing the first and second verses, respectively, of “Riders on the Storm.”

The audio and video recording is the latest Playing for Change Song around the World. And it’s overflowing with sound, including Micah Nelson on harmonica, wordless vocalizations from native singers and didgeridoo, accordion, kora, trumpet and other accompaniments from 20 musicians and dancers from eight nations.

Which is to say, it’s quite busy.

While many Songs around the World seamlessly fold disparate elements into a cohesive one, “Riders on the Storm” is more of a hodgepodge. It’s a curiosity; a noble experiment that doesn’t pay off musically, but does succeed in bringing cultures - and the living and the dead - together in a virtual reality.

Bonus: Morrison conspiracy theorizers have something new on which to chew.
