Maybe this is just because Iām begging for breadcrumbs of Luis content but TO ME one of the most interesting parts of his life is his time spent working for Los Illuminados,,,
Like if you do the maths backwards he was there for FIVE YEARS. And he was the ONLY SCIENTIST to make it out alive!!! I wanna know what his day to day life trapped in those labs looked like!! How many of those years were spent completely alone and isolated from anyone else??? I wanna know if he had to watch his friends and coworkers all die one by one or if some of them volunteered to be tested on and now Luis has to live with that guilt on his conscious too. I wanna know if he ever tried to escape or if there was just genuinely no way out. I wanna know if working with Las Plagas on his own all day every day drove him mad or if he just dissociated from it all. I wanna know how he felt and if he ever broke down and cried. I am a yapper at heart BCNDJDN I also tried to steer away from his lore/backstory and just wrote a blanket description of his personality like you asked, so this may be subject to my own personal interpretations, I hope thatās okay with you!! OK so surface level stuff Luis is a silly guy. The first impression you get of him in-game is that heās a massive flirt and like. Yeah. Thatās true LMAO heās VEEEEERY openly flamboyant, DEFINITELY a bit of a pretty-boy type, and has ZERO shame and flirts with every single one of the main characters, but heās never sleazy or disrespectful about it. When someoneās in distress he drops the act completely, and he uses his flirty/jokey āpersonaā moreso to relieve tension and win Leon/Ashley/Adaās trust over him than anything else. He likes to push the other charactersā buttons and tease them during fights (ie like in the cabin or against the giants)- like heās DEFINITELY at least a LITTLE bit of the ācomic reliefā character in this game with his jokes and pick up lines- but maaaaaaaan, the poor guy just canāt help but wear his heart on his sleeve. He always sees the best in other people and itās VERY endearing to me :)
He was raised on and based his personality on the classic Don Quixote (which, tldr, is a book about this old man who goes mad from reading too many fairytales and stories about knights and sets off on his own quest to become a knight errand), to the point where he plays into the role of being a āknightā and gives his companions nicknames from the book like Sancho (Leon) or Princess Dulcinea (Ashley). He likes to play pretend a bit and even though the original book is supposed to be a satire, Luis still adopts those ideas of chivalry; heās INCREDIBLY compassionate towards the other main characters and he almost gets himself killed multiple times for people heās only just met
The main driving motivator for Luisā character is that he is SO so so so very guilty over his past. Heās obsessed with the idea of redemption and heāll do absolutely anything to prove that heās a good person, including throwing his life on the line for Leon and Ada to get them their medicine and make sure that they survive. In his mind, if he can help Leon, Ashley and Ada, and can get them out of Los Illuminados and get the Plagas out of them, then heāll have finally āredeemedā himself and heāll be free of his āsinsā from his past. The guilt clearly eats away at him, cuz it takes some prying from the other characters to get him to open up about his past, and he doesnāt talk very highly about himself either, but he still has hope that he can be a good person and he can help fix the mistakes he made and make the world a better place. A lot of the mistakes he made are of his own doing, too, and he just canāt help but keep making those mistakes, so heās stuck in a loop of desperately wanting to help others and right his wrongs but the ghosts of his past keep catching up to him. A LOT of his character is influenced by his upbringing and backstory, but again, I just wanted to keep this a blanket description of his character and personality- I have other posts on my blog about his backstory stuff though!! :D
TLDR, heās not really an easy character to simplify BCBDUDNDJ heās flirty, heās gay, heās the silly comic relief, heās deeply tragic, heās a gentleman, heās knightly, heās curious, heās selfless to the point of self-sacrifice, he did horrible things and now the guilt of doing those things is eating him alive, he has hope that he can be a better person and help othersā¦ heās a man of many multitudes and I think thatās what makes writing him so fun!!
