smile like you mean it | L&A

Though her beloved Mexico had lost the World Cup, Allie had put on a smiling face for the after-parties. It had been easy to change into a short, sequined dress before finding the best one to attend; at an event like this, there were dozens. There was one that Lucius had chosen near the more exclusive part of the cup grounds and the brunette had been inordinately pleased with the amount of champagne that had been sent for it. Though she supposed they were in France. She was well on her third flute of champagne and talking to a casual acquaintance, her husband and Lucius somewhere nearby. She assumed Penny was around, too, though she might have already absconded with Antonin to their tent.
The party was loud and the sky was getting darker, the purples and pinks of dusk making way to the midnight blue of the late evening. The stars seemed to shine brighter and she couldn’t have told anyone when the mark appeared in the sky as she’d been focused on what was close-by. What she did notice, in her champagne haze, was the feel of a familiar hand on her elbow. Her lips quirked as she turned, speaking before she looked up at him, pausing to take another sip of her drink. “I’d wondered where you’d gotten to. Would I approve?” she asked, curious to see if he’d found any women he’d found interesting that evening.
