QUINNE: -The market was closed up in the latter part of the day, and after Quinne had taken the time to stow away her things until the next day's market and head back home, she ventured back out to the Unbreakable Union, idling around in the dormitory halls and staring at door numbers as she went along.- BALDUR: -baldur is out and about, for now. He's got three things around his neck- the smooth stone she gave him, a handheld camera and an orange bottle cap for some reason. He looks a little better, too- the bandages are off and his cheeks only look a little blue. He's had a busy day taking pictures of cobwebs and such and now he's got to determine the findings, but he halts as he sees a shadow moving down the halls.- O-O QUINNE: -She doesn't notice him immediately -- she seems to be staring rather intensely at one of the room numbers for a good ten seconds or so. When she finally turns, it's an additional second or two that she stares at him, and then she finally starts shuffling straight toward him.- BALDUR: O-O BALDUR: i didnt prepare BALDUR: hello o-o QUINNE: -she stops when she's finally in front of him- QUINNE: )) what are you preparing? (( BALDUR: for an arrival BALDUR: and you have arrived O-O BALDUR: and lo-oking at things BALDUR: like do-ors QUINNE: -that's true. She was definitely looking at those things.- QUINNE: -instead of confirming or even being mysterious about as much, she retrieves something from her sylladex and offers it out to him. It looks an awful lot like a flower crown.- QUINNE: -Except it's not. It certainly has leaves, but rather than blossoms, it's made up of the carefully preserved and colored molted exoskeletal shells of various insects.- BALDUR: O-O BALDUR: oh BALDUR: gosh BALDUR: -he is... Oddly fascinated by this slightly morbid gift.- BALDUR: -he slowly, awkwardly, takes it in his hand for inspection.- BALDUR: for BALDUR: me? QUINNE: ... QUINNE: )) the shells are a symbol of rehatch (( QUINNE: )) and change (( BALDUR: you mean they arent dead QUINNE: )) not exactly (( QUINNE: )) they were just a part of something, peeled away and left behind so it could grow (( BALDUR: O-O BALDUR: you say it in a way that makes it beautiful -he sorta carefully puts it on his head. RIGHT THERE. he shivers a little from the thought of all those bugs, but symbolism is more important- BALDUR: thank you o-o QUINNE: -she's just kind of regarding the picture of him wearing the bug crown.- QUINNE: ... QUINNE: )) I don't want you to die (( QUINNE: )) by the way (( BALDUR: oh BALDUR: yes i didnt BALDUR: assume you did BALDUR: satomi just gets worried O-O QUINNE: )) and loud (( QUINNE: )) and accusatory (( BALDUR: it is a kind of passion o-o BALDUR: personally i admire it QUINNE: )) I guess so (( QUINNE: )) I don't think I like it (( BALDUR: I am going to speak to her BALDUR: it was my decision BALDUR: and i have no power at all if i cannot tell her that it is my decision to make O-O QUINNE: ... )) okay (( QUINNE: -looks down at the camera and bottle cap- QUINNE: )) have you been spell casting? (( BALDUR: yes BALDUR: and seeking BALDUR: for um BALDUR: confidence -fidgets with the orange cap necklace- QUINNE: )) what do you need to be confident for? (( QUINNE: -this sure is still a conversation happening in a hallway... But she does not seem to care currently- BALDUR: lots of things BALDUR: talking to satomi was the reason O-O BALDUR: because its easy to lose what i need to say when someone is BALDUR: passionate BALDUR: it is the flames into which i throw my doubts as fuel for my mental strength O-O BALDUR: um BALDUR: in addition to being orange slice i mean QUINNE: -a hand reaches up so she can touch the cap and take a look at it, too- QUINNE: )) I know people that act like she does (( QUINNE: )) that try to tell you what you are or how to be (( QUINNE: )) they like to have control, which means taking it from you (( QUINNE: )) but only if you give it to them (( BALDUR: you mean there are people like that in the forest to-o O-O QUINNE: )) not anymore (( QUINNE: )) they are other places (( BALDUR: oh O-O BALDUR: ... BALDUR: are they BALDUR: dead o-o BALDUR: oh O-O BALDUR: ... BALDUR: are they BALDUR: dead o-o QUINNE: )) maybe (( BALDUR: O_O QUINNE: ... BALDUR: oh BALDUR: ono QUINNE: )) she's one of those people (( BALDUR: that does not sound nice BALDUR: . . . BALDUR: sorry BALDUR: um BALDUR: you can come inside if you want QUINNE: )) inside (( QUINNE: )) your block (( BALDUR: oui BALDUR: that is from the human language franks QUINNE: )) okay (( QUINNE: )) I guess I might do that (( BALDUR: i will keep the do-or open so that you may decide ouo QUINNE: )) okay (( BALDUR: -OPENS THE DOOR AND SLIPS INSIDE- QUINNE: -She's... Oddly grateful for the time to consider, and she stands in the hallway for a little bit, just thinking. About being allowed this kind of decision, and about his room, and about him.- QUINNE: -She eventually decides she wants to know, and finally moves from her spot in the hall to step inside his room, curious what exactly she'll find there.- BALDUR: -His room is rather dimly lit, overall, and much of the available space is occupied one way or another. He almost looks like a hoarder, though much of it appears to be handmade imitations of various mystical trinkets and good luck charms, hung up around the room. It is lit primarily by fairy lights and there is a considerably large blanket fort on the ground, that she would catch him crawling into as she enters.- QUINNE: -Oh. This is... Nice? It's easy on the eyes, at least, like her home. She takes some time to consider the fort, though, just watching it from outside.- QUINNE: )) am I supposed to go in there? (( BALDUR: if you would like to O-O BALDUR: it is my haven BALDUR: the shadowmen cannot penetrate its quilted lining O-O BALDUR: also my husktop is in here QUINNE: ... QUINNE: )) okay (( -Here she comes, bending down to pull one edge of the blanket entrance aside and crawl in.- QUINNE: )) it's kind of nice, I guess (( BALDUR: -he is hunched over the glow of the computer.- i find it relaxing o-o BALDUR: -he plugs in the camera and uploads the pictures he too- i am going to examine my findings BALDUR: do you want to help QUINNE: )) maybe (( -Despite her usual indecisive word choice, she's leaning closer to peek.- BALDUR: -Tbh they are not very good. But he is enthusiastic, at least.- i am convinced that there is a nontroll and also nonhuman and maybe nonotherspecies presence on this vessel O-O BALDUR: lurking QUINNE: -stares at them- ... QUINNE: )) is that a web? (( BALDUR: yes O-O BALDUR: i once communed with the spirit of a deceased arachnid QUINNE: )) really? (( QUINNE: )) that sounds nice (( BALDUR: the spider died on my person ono BALDUR: after crawling on me a lot BALDUR: and getting under my sweater BALDUR: it did some biting to-o QUINNE: ... )) oh (( QUINNE: ... BALDUR: it was unfortunate BALDUR: but very spiritual O-O QUINNE: )) did you try to save it? (( BALDUR: someone else stepped on it ono BALDUR: -he decides not to say who. LETS NOT MAKE THIS ANY WORSE- QUINNE: )) who did that? (( QUINNE: -she's asking anyway...- BALDUR: -DARNIT- BALDUR: an individual QUINNE: ... BALDUR: anyways i always check the webs just in case i see more BALDUR: there are bound to be creatures with unfinished business O-O BALDUR: a web is so intricate it is like BALDUR: if you ate off of a painting every day QUINNE: )) yes (( QUINNE: )) a painting you always knew how to paint (( QUINNE: )) and the paint is deadly to everyone but you (( BALDUR: and its made out of coalesced spirit matter that clings to the flesh of the living O-O QUINNE: )) yeah (( QUINNE: )) it's nice (( QUINNE: -reaches over to flip through more of his photos- BALDUR: -a bunch of wires. Behind a vending machine. That looks like.... the floor.- oh that one is bad I dropped my camera by accident QUINNE: -there's a soft sound out of her that may be a very quiet snort?- QUINNE: )) have you ever thought about taking pictures in liminal spaces? (( BALDUR: you mean in my dreams O-O QUINNE: )) no (( QUINNE: )) places of travel are good ones (( QUINNE: )) the spaces that are in between (( QUINNE: )) somewhere that isn't really here or there (( QUINNE: )) places that people have been but no one really stays (( QUINNE: )) there's something that feels different about them (( QUINNE: )) the feeling you get when you pull off to a rest stop with only strangers passing through (( BALDUR: i um BALDUR: i dont think ive done that no BALDUR: maybe because ive been on the ship to-o long QUINNE: )) you could do it easily (( QUINNE: )) with all the travel you do (( BALDUR: its like a portal between metaphoric worlds . . . QUINNE: -kind of distant staring at his husktop screen- BALDUR: -he pauses a little awkwardly, but then pauses and swipes the screen a few times.- this one is from the underside of the engine BALDUR: it is very dark down there and it is a service hatch i am technically not supposed to enter BALDUR: but you can barely make out the outline of the shapes and the placed where they used all their tools to repair it BALDUR: ...metal scratches and stuff O-O BALDUR: the hum is powerful and dark and if there ever were a place spirits would dwell it would be here BALDUR: just beneath QUINNE: -after a moment she leans a little closer- QUINNE: )) you like it down there? (( BALDUR: i go there a lot for pictures BALDUR: there are shapes in the darkness sometimes QUINNE: )) maybe I should go there (( BALDUR: well you are not a part of the ship but BALDUR: i dont think it would hurt QUINNE: )) I am now (( BALDUR: wait really o-o QUINNE: )) yes (( QUINNE: )) I was allowed (( BALDUR: oh BALDUR: i went all this time without welcoming you BALDUR: welcome ovo QUINNE: ... (( BALDUR: o-o yes but quietly and at a distance i think QUINNE: )) okay (( QUINNE: )) that was a joke (( BALDUR: it was funny BALDUR: ... i am just not always go-od at realizing that jokes are jokes O-O QUINNE: )) I don't usually want people to tell the difference when I make them (( BALDUR: youre so mysterious QUINNE: )) because I want to be (( QUINNE: )) you're not mysterious (( BALDUR: ono BALDUR: you can tell so easily QUINNE: )) yes (( QUINNE: )) it's probably not bad (( BALDUR: i would like to be more mysterious BALDUR: overall ouo QUINNE: )) then you have to leave more questions than answers (( BALDUR: o-o BALDUR: i can always try BALDUR: that seems a little dishonest though QUINNE: )) sometimes it is (( QUINNE: )) but if that's what you want (( BALDUR: oh BALDUR: would you be willing to forget several of the things i told you about myself then O-O BALDUR: (i am joking) QUINNE: ... QUINNE: -something weird is happening to her face all of a sudden. she's... grimacing???- BALDUR: O-O BALDUR: are you ok QUINNE: -for some reason this question and his face just makes her face twitch more, and she's huffing a little. this is embarrassing please save her and stop this happening.- BALDUR: -just sorta. STARES. No way he's going to stop looking now- BALDUR: (are you experiencing a spiritual disturbance i wont tell) QUINNE: -okay now she's just gonna put her face in her hands, and that's when the wheezing is a little more audible.- QUINNE: )) s-- stop (( BALDUR: are you speaking to me or the spirit O-O QUINNE: -okay now it actually sort of sounds more like laughter. this is terrible.- QUINNE: -HE'S JUST. TOO MUCH.- QUINNE: )) no (( BALDUR: so you mean it must be some other mystic presence O-O BALDUR: that is not spiritual in nature BALDUR: -takes a picture of her face in AWE- QUINNE: )) no! (( BALDUR: oh BALDUR: o-ops QUINNE: -the laughing is sort of starting to subside now, at least- QUINNE: )) I don't know why that happened (( BALDUR: me neither O-O BALDUR: it is a mystery OvO QUINNE: -peers up at him again- BALDUR: OvO QUINNE: -nevermind she's smiling again- )) no (( BALDUR: no what BALDUR: you keep saying that QUINNE: )) you keep... (( QUINNE: )) making me do this (( BALDUR: do what O-O BALDUR: i am not trying to BALDUR: i dont think im doing anything BALDUR: am i BALDUR: am i making you do things BALDUR: am i controlling your mind without realization BALDUR: quinne say the number i am thinking O-O QUINNE: )) no (( QUINNE: )) you're just doing things that happen to be doing things to me (( QUINNE: -THAT SOUNDS SO STUPID- QUINNE: )) nevermind (( BALDUR: aw -he almost sounds disappointed- BALDUR: i guess i can begin to research esp some other time QUINNE: )) yes (( QUINNE: -she's blue-green in the face again after all this... uncomfortable emoting. and also talking about the emoting.- QUINNE: )) I need to feed my mosquitoes (( BALDUR: o-o BALDUR: that sounds BALDUR: pleasant QUINNE: )) I draw blood for them (( QUINNE: )) they use it to make their eggs (( BALDUR: thats ok you dont have to explain it BALDUR: i think BALDUR: i am glad you gave me this BALDUR: it is a good gift QUINNE: )) you like it (( BALDUR: yes BALDUR: i do BALDUR: i like it a lot o-o BALDUR: and everything it means QUINNE: )) okay (( QUINNE: -just stares at him for a few seconds- QUINNE: )) anyway, bye (( BALDUR: ouo BALDUR: bye QUINNE: -keeps staring...- QUINNE: -and then turns abruptly to crawl out of the blanket fort-
