To the right are her mother, grand aunt, and great grandfather—who combine to represent four generations of one of the first black-owned businesses in the city. To the left are the girls of GirlForward, who are all resettled refugees from countries in conflict. With so much change and so many new arrivals, remember . . .

"We are in the midst of the biggest refugee crisis the world has ever seen" says GirlForward, with girls "especially vulnerable to violence, isolation, and being kept out of school....But when girls succeed, everyone benefits." Austin artist Lucas Pastorfield-Li says "the primary function of all artwork is to provoke a reaction." Painting his first mural at E. 6th and San Marcos, Lucas P-Li juxtaposed the refugee immigrants of GirlForward with the history of minorities in Austin and whatever the work may lack in places in artistic sophistication one hopes it more than makes up for in evoking a reaction.  @lucaspli.art/  @girlforwardgram/
