It had been a long, busy day at the restaurant. Fulfilling as it often was, but naturally tiring. Lark was always grateful for his loyal customer base, many of whom had become dear friends, but the peace and quiet of closing comes as a welcome relief. Sweeping the kitchen to the soothing lull of French music playing in the background, he almost doesn’t notice the man walk in through the back door with the same ease and familiarity anyone who works here would. In reality, it’s been years since Luke worked here, but seeing him has never failed to put a smile on Lark’s face, much to Luke’s own confusion. When he hears the door close behind him, Lark turns to face the other, that predictable smile stretching across his face as it’s so prone to do. “Luke! What a nice surprise. Please,” he gestures eagerly to a chair by the bar, “make yourself at home. You’re out awfully late. You hungry? I’ll make you something. Anything. What would you like?”
