The Wheel of Alt-Universes has Chosen: Different Supernatural - Human
If Lucas was never bitten, it put's his adoptive father in an interesting situation with the rest of his pack + why he took Lucas in the first place.
Originally, Lucas was bitten in a moment of panic and taken back because that's the Vawter way to handle turning someone, but if he's just a human the responsibility on his adoptive father is less pack-based and more direct. Lucas being taken is no longer a werewolf thing, it is purely his adoptive father trying to replace the son he lost.
Wolfsbane grows naturally in a lot of the areas the Vawter pack frequents, I think Lucas being the only one who is regularly able to touch it without danger means he's taking it upon himself to learn more about the local area and ecosystem.
Lucas without the trauma of his turning and the recklessness that comes with his abuse of his healing factor is a different man. He'll always be cocky and a bit of a daredevil, but he's more used to long-term consequences for the shit he does. He's no longer reckless by werewolf standards, just human standards.
