MIRIAM MAISEL’S STARTER CALL • @ltcaruso
She’s midway through recounting a particularly expletive-filled version of her latest mediation between herself, Joel, and their respective lawyers when she notices the murmur running through the regulars that can only mean there’s law enforcement present. But the glare of spotlight means she can’t see for herself, and when she doesn’t hear the familiar bellow to wrap things up from Officer Peluso, she keeps going until the end of her bit.
It’s the Gaslight, so she doesn’t end with her usual spiel - they don’t need her to remind them of her name when a good seventy percent or so of the audience are regulars. “You’ve been a great audience, ladies and gentlemen, but I can see there’s someone just offstage who wants my attention so that’s it from be for the nigh. Be sure to come back on Saturday to see if people are fed up of paying my bail or not!”
She leaves the stage with a grin that can only be described as cheeky, and heads down the stairs to her left, straight to the newcomer. That grin of hers is slowly replaced by a look of curiosity, and she shares a brief glance with Susie (who has come to hover a few feet away) before greeting him.
“You’re much politer than Officer Peluso. He doesn’t normally let me finish.”
