Ā What is the purpose of this App?
IT GIVES YOU A TOOL IN HANDS TO AVOID MAKING MISTAKES IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING DECISIONS AND TO AVOID TYPICAL THINKING MISTAKES (FALLACIES, BIASES..)
What are Management Thinking Mistakes?
Thinking Mistakes are defects in our thinking process that weaken our aim to find the best solution. By learning to recognize common known fallacies, biases and effects; we can avoid using them in the context of a meeting or decision making. At the same time we can also learn to recognize them when used by others. The goal of this app is giving you a tool in hands right at the time and place of need to avoid all those thinking traps and therefore make you stronger in your decisions and prepare you for your next meetings.
Ā What to expect from this app?
CROWDSOURCED AND GROWING LIST OF MOST COMMON THINKING MISTAKES
A steady growing list and visual of the most common thinking mistakes, fallacies, biases and effects with definitions, origin, links, samples and special WIB tips
You yourself can help us to complete the database and submit your own āfavoriteā mistake and you will be credited within the App.
INNOVATIVE SEARCH AND TOOL RIGHT BEFORE YOUR NEXT IMPORTANT DECISION TAKING
An innovative search, which can be applied right before your next meeting. Just turn the wheel and select what kind of meeting you will join (open up, new ideas, criticize, finalize a project) and the App will list the most common thinking mistakes you may be facing.
THE FACTS AND STORY BEHIND
Computer Power combined with huge amounts of Data were thought to transform the āArt of Managementā to become more of a āScience of Managementā.
To make the right decision is more difficult than ever we all painfully experienced in the last few years, it did not completely work. Finance, Insurance even whole Economics failed in spite of sophisticated decision models and huge amounts of calculated data.
As the recession and failures spread-out, it may give an impression that all those highly sophisticated models have failed. But as always with extremes, it would be similar wrong, to advise now all managers to do a 180 degree turn around and make all their decisions only on the basic of their gut instinct.
Ā Sometimes we are all trapped by thinking mistakes
What we believe is that most of those tools have their place and are useful, but they must embed more realistic modes of human behavior. We are all humans after all, we all sometimes fall into logical fallacies but in order to avoid them in our own arguments, and defend ourselves from them when they are used against us, itās necessary to be able to recognize and fight them.
Companies will continue to seek ways to exploit the increasing amounts of data and computing power. But managers in every industry must take responsibility for looking inside the black boxes that advanced quantitative tools often represent and understanding their functioning, assumptions, and limitations.
Ā This App helps to avoid thinking mistakes for your next meeting
This App as we believe helps every decision maker to do just that. It gives you a mobile collection of the most common and as well newer fallacies, bias and effects and explains them, shows samples, gives references for deeper research and supports the message through a catchy visual.
You can filter those thinking errors by situation and objective as well as build your own shortlist with your āfavoritesā. And for each of the mistakes the App will suggest management tools which will support you in avoiding those thinking errors. We strongly suggest to combine our App with the fantastic Mind Tools app which is as well freely available for your smart device
Ā 3 STEP CHECK IF YOU NEED THIS APP:
If you can say NO to all those 3 thinking traps listed here below, you can stop reading..
Did one of those situations happen to you?
Before starting a new business idea, we normally engage a lot of time into the research and analysis of similar stories and ideas. We logically concentrate here more on success stories and not so much on what has failed. This leads then to the logical conclusion that success is easy to be achieved. >>WRONG! You have been fallen victim to the Survivorship Bias
Decision takers believe there is a risk in offering something (advertising, consultancy, service etc) that's different from successful competitors. >> THIS BELIEVE HAS A NAME.. von Restorff Effect
To assume that decision makers of the past viewed events from the same perspective and had the same information as those subsequently analyzing a decision today. >> WRONG! You have fallen victim to the Historian's fallacy
Ā This apps covers thinking mistakes in currently 3 categories (fallacies, biases and effects)Ā linked to 15 situations decision taking and 30 business tools, which can help to avoid them.. And all this is constantly growing together with the app community.
