#lr method

I have spent so many hours researching methods for language learning but I’m interested in the listening-reading/ L-R method. I’ve read a lot about the L-R method especially on different forums such as HTLAL. 

Very brief outline:

1) Read English translation of text 2)German audio and German text - listen and read simultaneously 3) Listen to German audio and read English text simultaneously (key phase apparently)

Repeat this 3 times. Some people recommend doing step 1 for the whole book, then step 2 and then step 3. Some people go chapter by chapter or page by page.

4) Listen to German and repeat it, ensuring you have correct pronunciation.

5) Translate from English to German. Although I can see this step being a problem when the author is very loose on their translations.

A couple of people have reported that they have achieved ‘natural listening’ ability in 20-40 hours of using the LR method with 20-40 hours of new French content. Natural listening means that you have the ability to understand texts (without a dictionary) that are simpler than the ones that you have used for L-R. 20-40 hours of natural listening is the equivalent of using the LR method for 2-4 Harry Potter books, as each of the audio books about 10 hours long. 

Also, it’s recommended that you use this method with books that are relatively long like Harry Potter. If I have understood correctly, this method is useful for building up your passive vocabulary, as often many words are repeated several times in different contexts helping them to ‘stick’. Will I try this method sometime soon? I don’t know, I don’t want to waste a lot of my time on a method that doesn’t work. I have inputted ‘Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen’ (book 1) into the Learning with Texts software. The amount of UNKNOWN words in chapter one is 84%, so only 16% of words are known. I have also uploaded the first chapter of the ‘Der Kleine Prinz’ and the amount of UNKNOWN words = 86%. That is an extremely high level of unknown words.
