Without You - Low Roar

It raises so many questions. Does that person exist? Is that their real name, or did you change it to keep it anonymous? Do you like them? Are/were you friends? Is it a person from your past, one that you miss? Someone you hate? Do they know you wrote a song about them? are you actually that person and singing to yourself? Or do they represent the idea of a specific type of person?

Idk if it’s just me but it feels so intimate. Why do I as the listener get to know this name? why didn’t the artist just use “you” or other pronouns? Especially when the name isn’t mentioned in the lyrics at all. There was no need to put a specific name in the title, it doesn’t change anything. It’s entirely for the artist’s sake. It’s like sharing something deeply personal but refusing to explain and give context. I think that’s really cool and adds a certain heaviness to the song. I will probably never understand, but that's okay, I don't need to.

His music was the soul of the first game. Remember how Death Stranding began with “Don’t Be So Serious”? His songs stayed with us throughout the entire journey. Ryan passed away in 2022, and all this time I’d hoped Hideo Kojima wouldn’t forget him.

And he didn’t. During the event, Kojima said that Death Stranding 2 will feature some tracks from the first game, along with two previously unreleased songs shared by Ryan’s family.

I’ve already heard one of the new songs and the old one — “Give Up.” And it was… painful, in the best way. Raw and deeply real.

If you’ve never listened to Low Roar before, you really should. These songs reach deep inside you, and afterwards, something goes quiet. This is one of those rare cases where music isn’t just background — it’s emotional therapy.
