I woke up on the three hundredth and sixty-fourth day next to him. It probably doesn’t seem like much to anyone else but I’ve never made it to 365 with anyone else, much less 364.
Relationships are a difficult thing to maintain - that is only if we are talking about wanting to have a relationship that actually means something. I don't think I've ever wanted to be in a relationship with someone longer than a month. I am not dismissing my previous relationships as if they were a complete waste of my time. But in all honesty, I know that I am currently with someone who has shown me so much more about myself than anyone else has ever done.Â
In a time frame of just a year, I have learned that I am exceptionally grumpy when I am hungry. I also know that I am addicted to eating carbs. I have learned that I am a control freak. I am a planner and I need to know everything at least one step ahead of time if not three. I have learned that I am quite impatient, yet, I find peace in finding patience when I least expect it. I have learned that I am less afraid of letting people in because there are actually a handful of people who actually do care for my well being. I have also learned that I am more than what I allow myself to take credit for. And lastly, I have learned that I am capable of loving someone selflessly despite the uncertainty.
I don't know where our relationship will be five years from now. I don't even know about where I'll be five months from now. But our relationship is one instance where I am learning to not stress about planning it down to the detail. The future is always uncertain. But that doesn't mean I can't be certain about how I feel about someone else in the now. And I think that is all that matters.
In a day short of a year, I have learned a lot more than I could have ever imagined. I think that I am just grateful that I have someone so special that I can wake up next to - someone that I can roll over and whisper good morning to - someone who I am going to spend the three hundredth and sixty-fifth day with.
