summary: your partner helps you with a little driving practice
[GD, TOP, D-LITE]
Kwon Jiyong (GD)
You wanted independence.
When you first came to your husband with the idea he was startled. His precious Jagiya out on the open roads? With drivers like Seunghyun around? The hazards you’d encounter? It scared him.
Nonetheless, he found the best instructor in Seoul to teach you to drive. He was half-tempted to wrap the car in bubblewrap when you first waved him goodbye and the car plodded down the street, crawling at a humble 5mph.
But when you came home one day, throwing your keys to one side and falling face-first onto the couch with a dramatic flop his joyful smile wilted. He paused his tv show, immediately hurrying over from the loveseat to drape himself over you before Zoa could claim her spot on your back.
“Y/n, what’s wrong?” he mumbled, lips resting on the back of your head.
“My instructor said that if I can’t figure out how to parallel park, I’ll never pass my test.” Your lips wobbled as you spoke into a pillow, face hidden in its soft fabric.
He pulled back with a sigh, stroking your hair, brushing it to one side. “Oh Jagi, it’s ok.”
Jiyong couldn’t deny his slight relief at your words, fully ready to be reinstated as your personal chauffeur again. His hand moved to rub your back in soothing circles, knees pressing into the couch either side of your hips.
Your voice was quiet as you spoke, “Maybe I should just give up. I’m not cut out for this.”
His hand stilled. A wave of guilt washed away his selfish relief. His wife…giving up? It didn’t sound like you, and he didn’t like that.
Because he was nothing if not supportive of you, so why had he let his own fears shift his values? His purpose was to stand by your side, to hold each other up.
Jiyong stared at his wedding band, resting against your back, glowing under the dim living room lamps.
“Jagiya…you’re not giving up.”
And that was how, thirty minutes later, you found yourself behind the wheel again, this time with Jiyong in the passenger seat. The two of you were in your matching pyjamas, and he wore a cap, hiding his messy hair.
The sun was setting, traffic had thinned, and the radio was turned low.
He guided you through quiet side streets, pointing things out with ease and confidence. “Check that mirror… good. Smooth turn here, baby. You’re doing so well, Jagi! I’m impressed.”
Jiyong couldn’t hide the way his chest was slightly puffed out, lips smirking as he watched you, because he was proud to see you thrive.
And you looked real fucking good doing it.
He stared at your profile as you focused on the road, a slight frown between your brows as you concentrated. The way the seatbelt rested between your chest, the way your hair blew gently from the aircon…hmm.
Maybe after you parallel parked successfully he could have you drive somewhere more hidden.
Somewhere he could pull you into the backseat and make your legs so weak he’d have to drive the two of you home.
Before his thoughts could spiral anymore, he cleared his throat and pointed, his next sentence making your blood run cold.
“Okay, now pull up between those two cars. Perfect practice spot for parking.”
You slammed the brakes. “No! I can’t! I’m going to dent their cars!”
He chuckled. “You won’t. I’m right here. You’ve got this.”
You swallowed your nerves and eventually relented. Slowly, cautiously, the car inched toward the curb - but Jiyong shifted slightly in his seat.
“Hold on. The angle’s a little off. You’re a bit too close to the front car.”
You huffed, shifted into drive, and pulled out to try again.
The second attempt was still not quite right. You could feel your frustration rising, cheeks warm, hands too tight on the wheel.
Then a car rolled up behind you, waiting to pass you in the narrow road and your entire brain short-circuited.
“Ji, someone’s behind me. I can’t do it when they’re watching!”
“Ignore them. They can wait,” he said calmly. “You’re learning.”
You tried again, a little faster this time - and your back wheel bounced off the curb.
“Ugh! Jiyong, I can’t do this! Can we just drive on?”
“You can, Jagi,” he said firmly, looking at you with determination. “You don’t get to give up now. I believe in you. You’re so close.”
More cars were stacking up behind until someone eventually beeped their horn.
Your husband frowned, then rolled down the window and leaned halfway out. “Yah! Can’t you see the learner plates? Have some patience for my wife!”
...And that’s when it all went downhill.
The car behind suddenly erupted into squeals.
“Oh my god, it’s GDragon!”
He froze mid-lean, head still halfway out of the car.
“Oh no,” he muttered, sliding back into his seat with wide eyes. He tugged his hat lower.
“So… can I drive away now?”
But he exhaled loudly, rolling up his window before he crossed his arms stubbornly. “No. You’re going to do this.”
You stared at him. “Seriously?”
He nodded once, smiling. “You were so close. Come on, baby. Show them how it’s done.”
With your heart hammering in your chest, you tried again. This time, maybe the pressure helped because you finally got the angle right. The tires eased into place, the car slipping smoothly into the space with just enough room on either side.
"That's my girl!" He shouted, grabbing your hand as you bounced in your seat, giggling together in excitement.
“I did it! Ji, I actually - ”
But in your elation, your foot came off the brake pedal.
And you hadn’t pulled the parking brake.
Thunk.
The car rolled forward and bumped into the one in front.
You both froze.
He stared out the front window, lips twisting together. “...Okay. Now it’s time to drive away.”
You scrambled to sit back properly as he reached for his phone, quickly snapping a picture of the other car’s license plate.
“I’ll pay for the damage,” he muttered, then glanced out the window. “We need to go. They’re getting out of their cars now.”
You turned your head. Sure enough, a small group of fans had abandoned their vehicles and were now crowded around his side of the car, pressing close to the tinted windows, some filming, some waving. You swore someone mouthed “Marry me”
Panic flared in your chest. You put the car into reverse gear - only to hit the car behind this time.
“Shit.”
Jiyong tried not to react. “It’s okay. Just - gently now - ”
Bump.
He flinched at the sound.
You maneuvered the car back again.
Bump.
“Oh my god,” you groaned as you bounced between the parked vehicles like a ping pong ball.
You tried again with a little more frantic force, completely forgoing mirror checking, composure, and the parking sensors ringing like an alarm.
Crunch.
He covered his mouth with his hand, watching in silence as you dented his expensive car. The fans were now cheering at every collision, phones up and flash on.
Finally, on the fourth try, you broke free.
The second the tires cleared the space, you floored it and drove off without looking back. The fans were still screaming behind you, probably uploading ten different angles of your parallel parking crime.
The car ride home was silent. You were mortified.
Jiyong reached over and brushed your hair behind your ear, the corner of his mouth lifting into a soft smile as he playfully tugged on your earlobe.
“Hey. It’s okay. This is why they invented self-parking cars. We’ll get you one of those.”
You didn’t respond at first, but your lips twitched just a little.
Maybe.
“Now pull up under those trees, Jagi. I’m gonna teach you the value of tinted windows.”

Seunghyun (TOP)
Seunghyun wasn’t exactly what you’d call a frequent driver. In fact, if he had a choice, he’d always opt to be driven - he couldn't exactly drink and drive. And one glass of wine was never enough.
So it surprised you when, one lazy afternoon, he asked, “How are your driving lessons going?”
You shrugged, casual. “Fine, I guess.”
His brow quirked, amused. You were evasive whenever he'd ask about your lessons, yet you always assured him that you enjoyed them. Still - he was curious, he wanted to know everything about your day. “Want to go for a drive?”
You raised a brow. “You want to drive?”
“No,” he said smoothly, already reaching for his keys. “You’ll drive. I’ll supervise.”
You hesitantly agreed, figuring it couldn’t hurt to get a bit more practice in.
You definitely weren’t expecting him to be the problem.
The car ride started fine.
Seunghyun leaned back like he was in a luxury lounge, legs stretched out, sunglasses on despite the overcast sky. He rambled - nonstop, because when he was excited about something he loved to share it with you.
You tried to pay attention, something about a new restaurant that had opened, how the chef used to cook in the south of France, how he was thinking of taking you there this weekend.
But you were trying to focus on the road. Trying being the keyword.
Then someone beeped at you.
A sharp, impatient honk at the lights.
You jolted, you hadn't realised they had turned green already and you took off as fast as you could, cheeks burning a flaming red.
Seunghyun froze mid-sentence, slowly turning in his seat to glare through the rear window like he could will the driver behind you out of existence.
The car behind you aggressively overtook, swerving way too close before speeding off - only to get caught at the next light. You pulled up behind them, hesitantly, tension in your hands as you gripped the wheel.
And then it happened.
As soon as the lights turned amber, Seunghyun leaned over and slammed his hand onto the horn.
“SEUNGHYUN! No! Stop!” you yelped, batting at his arm. “Don’t engage! That’s exactly what they want!”
“They disrespected you,” he snapped, eyes still locked on the offending car with a narrowed gaze as they sped off again. “They’re lucky I didn’t bring a paintball gun.”
You shot him a disapproving glance from the corner of your eye, trying to remain focused on keeping the car moving within the road markings.
He sighed - dramatically - and sat back. “Fine. I’m sorry. I'm calm now.”
You weren’t.
Your heart was racing and your hands were a little shaky. You pulled over a few blocks later and parked, hands still on the wheel.
He turned to you, immediately softening. “Hey,” he said gently, reaching over to rest a hand on your shoulder, thumb stroking over your tense frame. “It’s okay. You're okay. They were just being stupid. You didn't do anything wrong."
You let out a breath you didn’t even realise you’d been holding.
“Switch seats with me,” he said. “I’ll drive us home.”
You didn’t argue. Your legs felt like jelly and your mind kept replaying the moment on a loop so you let Seunghyun slip behind the wheel instead.
And, oh boy. In hindsight, maybe you should’ve stayed in the driver’s seat.
He was relaxed. Too relaxed.
A cigarette hung lazily from his fingers, smoke curling out the open window. One hand on the wheel - occasionally. The other? It rested on your thigh like he wasn’t currently piloting a two-tonne vehicle through the city.
You had to keep nudging the wheel back on course every time it started to drift.
He barely noticed.
At one point, he started turning into an intersection without looking properly, and you had to yank the handbrake.
“Huh?” he said, peering out the windshield as a car passed directly in front of you. “Oh. Where did they come from?”
“They’ve been there, Seunghyun. I could see them from a mile off.”
He just hummed, like traffic was some abstract, philosophical concept he wasn’t particularly interested in engaging with.
By the time he finally pulled into the underground car park beneath your apartment complex - drifting diagonally over the designated parking lines like they were optional suggestions - you made a firm mental note: Book more lessons. Immediately.
Because if you had anything to do with it, Seunghyun wasn’t driving anywhere again.
Still, as the engine cut off and the silence settled in, you turned to him and smiled. “Thank you for taking me out.”
He grinned back, cigarette now gone, and his lips softly met yours in a kiss that was far more competent than his parking.
“You’re a good driver,” he murmured. “That makes one of us.”
You exhaled a laugh of relief - at least he knew he shouldn’t be behind the wheel.
Self-awareness was something.

Daesung (D-Lite)
You stared out the window, sipping your drink with a glint in your eyes.
Your boyfriend often splurged on expensive things, finding joy in buying gifts for you, new Lego sets, or adding to his extensive skin care products. But he’d never indulged in a pricey vehicle.
Until now.
The sports car sat parked in the drive-way, gleaming with that new car shine.
A temptation waiting to be driven.
And he was neglecting the poor thing since he spent most of his time at home or preferring to walk - claiming it was better for his health anyway.
Surely he wouldn’t notice if it was missing…
But when you went to swipe the keys from the counter, he appeared behind you, a sheet mask clinging to his face, and dressed in a pair of plaid pyjama bottoms.
“Where are you going?” he shuffled closer, hair held back by one of your fluffy headbands. “I was just about to run us a bath.”
“Uh…we’re out of milk,” you shrugged with an awkward laugh. You knew he couldn’t live without his coffee in the morning. “Be back in five!”
“And you’re taking my car?” he added quickly, crossing his arms over his toned chest.
Shit.
You turned around, the keys jingling in your hand as your arm fell to your side. “How’d you know?” you exhaled, feeling defeated by his observant nature.
“Doesn’t matter,” he brushed off, gently prying the keys from your grasp. “You’re not even legally allowed to drive alone. You have a learner’s permit.”
“But Dae,” you whined, reaching for his arm. “I was only going to circle the block. I’m a perfectly good driver.”
“Hmph,” he eyed you, hand on his hip. He knew that you’d had three instructors quit on you, all claiming they weren’t willing to risk their life for a job. He’d had to secretly bribe each new teacher double the standard amount just to get you a second lesson.
“Well why don’t you just come with me and I can prove it to you?”
“Oh, ha, actually…uh, I think I left the bath running,” he slowly backed up, feeling caged as you narrowed your eyes at his sudden retreat.
“Wait, do you think I’m a bad driver?” It was your turn to cross your arms.
“No, no,” he immediately backtracked, cradling your frowning face. “Baby, I’m sure you’re the best.”
You suddenly grinned, your trap executed perfectly. “Let’s go then!” you swiped the keys from his fingers and spun on your heel. “I’ll wait for you in the car!”
Daesung’s head dropped, the mask slowly slipping down his face as he resigned himself to a potentially fatal evening.
After he’d slipped his shoes on, found a shirt, and dried his glowing skin, he joined you in the car, sinking into the seat with a sigh.
“Five minutes. Then we’re getting into bed to watch a movie.” he said, clicking your seatbelt into place, checking its strength with a sharp tug. Good, at least you’d be ok. Maybe.
Oh god, what was he condoning?
“Yeah, yeah, how do I take the handbrake off?” Your eyes scanned all the flashing buttons and handles, the car far more high tech than you were used to.
Daesung pushed it for you as he busied himself strapping in. But he hurried his movements in a frantic manner as you peeled the car out of the drive way, foot heavy and eyes looking the wrong way.
He bit his tongue, head bouncing off the leather headrest when you stomped on the gas again, car revving loudly as you took off down the street.
His fingers dug tightly into his seat, trying not to make a sound as you giggled, excited by the thrill of driving something so fast.
“This is great, we’ll save so much time getting around,” you commented like speed limits didn’t exist.
You cast a glance to your mirror and checked if your lips were chapped.
“Eyes on the road, eyes on the road,” he breathed out, flipping your sunshield up before quickly returning his hands to their tense position, clutching the smooth leather beneath him.
“I am!” you defended, swerving round a cyclist with a tut. “Do you have any lip balm?”
He shook his head even though he knew he had a tube in his pocket, he wasn’t about to encourage you to remove your hands from the wheel.
Your sweet boyfriend remained silent, letting you have your fun as you sped around the neighbourhood, singing along to the radio, the music masking the sound of his foot slamming into the imaginary brake every time you took a corner without slowing.
By the time you reached the end of the long, straight road, you hit the brakes with the same enthusiasm you’d used on the gas. Daesung lurched forward with a choked noise, seatbelt pulling painfully taut around his stomach, and his palms slammed against the glovebox to prevent his face from hitting it first.
That was it.
He pressed the handbrake with two firm fingers and turned to you with fear poorly masked on his face.
“I can’t do this anymore, baby. C’mon, I’m driving us back.”
“Nooo!” you whined. “It hasn’t even been five minutes yet!”
“That’s because you were going 60mph in our gated neighbourhood!”
But you pouted.
And he was weak for your pout.
He sighed again, muttering to himself, but ultimately let you continue, wondering if he would feel safer closing his eyes or watching the horror ride in real time.
You were having the time of your life.
But Daesung?
He was silently considering how badly injured he'd be if he just jumped out of the car. And considering how the trees were a hazy green blur as you zipped past them - he'd be roadkill.
Your boyfriend eventually released a sigh of relief when the dashboard flashed “Low Fuel.”
Salvation.
“We’re low on petrol!” he breathed out.
But you beamed at the idea that popped into your head. “Ooh! I’ll drive us to the station. That’ll be fun.”
The light visibly left his eyes.
By some miracle - and his tightly whispered prayers, you made it to the gas station in one piece. Barely. You parked up… sort of. The car was a considerable distance away from the pump.
You hopped out, all smiles, and gestured for him to fix it. He silently slid over into the driver’s seat, adjusted the car into position, then got out to fuel up, his shoes hitting the ground with a reverent kind of relief.
He was so glad to feel the ground beneath his feet again.
But peace was fleeting. Because you jumped right back into the driver’s seat, fresh-faced and ready for round two. He thinned his lips, watching you through the tinted window happily grip the wheel like it was a toy controller.
Right.
He still had to survive the drive home.
Daesung then went inside to pay - and maybe to mentally regroup - returning with your favourite snacks and a pint of milk.
You squealed when he handed the treats over.
He smiled at your joy, swiftly buckling his belt, pulling it tight across his chest. He'd also been productive while waiting in line and had made a quick phone call.
“So,” he says gently, “I’ve already booked you a new driving instructor.”
But your face dropped in disappointment. “What? But I was having fun with you! I thought we could make this a regular thing.”
He leaned in, cupped your cheeks, and planted a soft kiss to your lips, all love and patience and slight trauma.
“Baby,” he says sweetly, “I love you. So much. But I want to live a long and happy life with you - so you need a proper instructor. Preferably one with dual pedals.”
You huffed, releasing the handbrake. “I think I’ve proven that I’m past supervision.”
He opened his mouth to respond - but you were already peeling out of the station with a confident little flourish… and taking the gas hose with you.
Both of you froze at the loud thud.
Your heads turned in sync to look out the window.
The nozzle was still hanging out of the car, a long hose dragged on the road behind you, hitting the tarmac with a repetitive whack.
There’s a moment of silence.
“…Maybe some professional lessons would be good,” you mumbled in acceptance.
Daesung didn't even say anything. He squeezed your thigh with a firm, loving hand.
Tonight’s movie of choice definitely wouldn’t be Fast and Furious. He’d already lived the experience.
