as the humanity within the vampire finally set in, an assortment of emotions came rushing through him. guilt, disgust, self-loathing    ----    all those feelings, like a sharp headache. numbing pain. stefan yelled to the top of his lungs but no one could hear him. nobody except for the one person who had been there since the moment fate turned him into a monster.     lexi.     how she could put up with someone so complicated, so distraught, he’d never understand. repulsion. someone that good couldn’t be around someone so vile. the crimes committed as the ripper. sadistically, without remorse. it was as though stefan was a different person but     ----   not.     “i’d like to be left alone, lexi.”     voice is low, brows furrow from the frustration felt for his very own being.     “you’re not going to piece me back together every time i fall off the rails. it’s not your responsibility. you don’t need to babysit me.”     words spew like a resentful venom.     (    resent felt only towards the choices made for nearly two decades     )     hands shook from the overwhelming emotions taking over a tired, cold body. to conceal his shaking limbs, stefan closes them into tight fists. short fingernails nearly piercing into palms. 

she’d been banking on the fact that stefan would be at the grill, but as soon as she walked in, she knew he wasn’t there. she did, however, recognize the head of blonde hair currently waiting at the bar. sighing, caroline moved towards her, clearing her throat awkwardly as she shifted her weight.  ❝ it’s lexi, right? ❞  stefan’s friend. stefan’s sober sponsor. the whole reason stefan was stefan. so...she was safe, right?  ❝ do...do you know where stefan is? i’m having an...an issue. a, you know, ❞  she glanced around, voice dropping as her weight rolled onto the ball of her feet,  ❝ a vampire issue? ❞          /          @loveovercomes​ !
