The Looming Monolith
So, full disclosure here, up until a week or so before we left Florida, I was a Disney Cast Member. I kept pretty mum about it until I was well and truly separated from the company, for a number of reasons. There’s more than a few complex emotions that come with the Nametag, and I’m still sorting through them. Having lived in Florida since I was four, Disney was always ‘there’. Seriously, the entire reason we moved to the Sunshine State was so my Dad could get the job he always dreamed of having. There was always some sort of Disney media in the house, we went to the parks very often, I had more than a few Princess dresses... I could go on about the influence Disney had over my life. As an adult, that influence became more like background radiation. I was driving around today, and it wasn’t until I was settled down tonight, watching YouTube when I realized how.... quiet my day was? I guess I could say it like that. Back home, Disney is pretty much everywhere. Stores, billboards, merchandise. EVERYTHING. I can’t turn around without some form of the Mouse showing up. Today, when I realized the absence, it hit me harder than expected.
I’m sure there are folks out there that have made seriously huge moves like this. I’m sure that I’m not the first to feel this way. I just don’t know how to process all this. What do you do when the influence is gone?
