this year for the holidays a friend of mine gave me a life size “large male mallard” figurine. i thought this was a really cool and thoughtful gift because he had remembered that one time i said i appreciated ducks. anyway he handed it to me before the first bell so i spent all day walking around campus with a life size fake male mallard. people kept asking me why i had a duck and each time i said it was a thoughtful gift. in my math class my classmates even named him wallace glen bob III. at the end of the day i took the duck home where he found a new home on my bookshelf and he remained there for a few weeks until my family did a deep clean for holiday company. somehow wallace got misplaced in the hubbub. for days, after all company had left, we searched for wallace, but we didn’t find him anywhere. wallace was missing. in the following months wallace slowly slipped into the back of my mind. he was becoming another lost thing. it was really sad because he was such a thoughtful gift from a really good friend. today i was in my living room messaging friends and i sent a selfie to a classmate from my former math class. it took some time for a response to come in, but eventually it did and it read: “am i imagining things or is wallace glen bob III photobombing you?”. wallace was indeed photobombing me. my mom had found him and put him on our coffee table. anyway just really happy we found wallace.
