The muggle street outside St Mungo’s wasn’t the most illustrious places in London but in Remus’ opinion it was miles better than going into the hospital. Hospitals reminded him of hurt and trauma and the first sign that things would be different now. The smell of disinfectant potions reminded him of that Healer, all those years ago, backing away when she realised what the bite on her patient meant. The sterility of the place might now remind him more of Poppy Pomphrey and her unrelenting kindness but Remus could never call the Hospital Wing a place of comfort. It was a prison where he had to suffer pain and boredom away from the joy most of the school provided.
Plus, he reckoned the St Mungo’s staff wouldn’t look kindly on him smoking inside while he waited for Lily.
He straightened up from where he had been leaning against a wall when someone in Healer’s robes stepped out from the barrier between the muggle world and the hospital. Clear disappointment showed on his face when he made eye contact with the woman and it was decidedly not Lily Evans. “Ah, sorry. I was hoping to see— Andromeda, right? Sirius’ cousin?”
