Lost Appreciation Week - Day 7: whatever you want - Flashbacks vs. Flashforwards vs. Flash-sideways
I like that Lost has a nonlinear narrative. I think flashbacks made characters more deep and real. They showed how the characters lived before the island and how they ended up on the flight. Flashforwards were interesting too. They gave us glimpses of the life after the island. Flash-sideways and the alternative reality itself were pretty interesting but ultimately unnecessary for the plot. If I had to choose one of them I would choose flashbacks. I think they gave the most to the plot and to the characters.
