LOSING WAR┃Theme: Humanity┃Précis: Arrival of mankind, self destruction, collateral damage, loss.┃Inspired by @streetwritersofficial daily prompt "Of forgotten dreams and lost memories." ▪︎ Thoughts: Often man believes he is at the top of the food chain. That intelligence equals survival, and yet every event you witness happens to be geared at our own impending extinction; it is inevitable. And yet why do we feel so safe? Why do we trust so much in our own, ah, "capabilities"? That we know it's for the best, that we know what's good for the planet. We often call it "humanity", why should that quality be called so? The horrors and atrocities we commit in the name of - love? Defence? How can we possibly put us in the centre and compare all "good" deeds to that? We like to justify our actions to get what we want, but when the same is done to us, we cry out in indignation. Is it "self" preservation? And if it is so, is that a justification? I find that self preservation is a losing war. Not that we can't defend ourselves, but that its effectiveness will one day prove to be detrimental to future itself. Are we the world's 'nicest' parasite, nature's biggest mistake, perhaps? It all makes me wonder about what constitutes intelligence, about what this bizarre phenomenon means for this planet, the type that only we seem to display? Speech, ideas, contemplation... I only hope that we are good, that we do the "right thing", that we help all creatures and strive to attain the perfect balance.
