“Well…” Renly began, but soon trailed off, and his eyes fixed on a spot on the floor, frowning.

“I suppose that, on the bright side, we both have different tastes in men and well, people in general, yeah? At least there’s that small consolation.”

"How... How does that help? We're to be married, it's not as if we're in an alliance. You know what they expect of us, Renly," she sighed, grinding the heels of her hands into her eyes.

Of course she knew she would live much longer than him but that didn't console her. Years of a loveless marriage wasn't something she would enjoy and knowing there was no hope, no point in even trying that there would only be attempts to make other people think they were happy, that they were a normal married couple. It was unbearable to her.

She suddenly stood.

Groggy and sleep deprived, it took some recollecting to realise the chamber was not his but rather his lovers’. His hand fell short onto hollowed blankets as he slowly rose. Dishevelled blonde mane sprung untamed as he settled back against the wood-woven headboard, yawning freely while his legs stretched to their content. Once fully aware of his surroundings, he was engulfed in it; the essence of him. They were such small details and yet hold so much meaning. 

Tired eyes glanced over the porcelain vase holding several gardenias and roses, some as bright as day while others a dashing red. Quiet moments like these he held close to his chest, they were a rarity. However, he did almost leap out of his skin when the doors swung open without warning. Both hands darted for scattered articles of clothing, assuming an unknowing handmaiden expected to find the lord and not his knight. As expected, a sigh of relief drew out once he made out his beloved.
