It was happening again. Loqi was trapped in another dream... no, a nightmare.

Ji-eun woke silently and rolled over to look to his side of the floor mattress, half laid down, half sat up with her neck craned as her eyes adjusted in the darkness.

Sometimes he settled himself back to sleep. As though, in his dreams, he found a way past the bad that was happening. Though that wasn't the case on this night. Her brows furrowed together, as her boyfriend- partner- father of her daughter uttered words out loud.

"Not her. Not her." It came as a strained whisper, tense, full of desperate emotion. She knew better than to leave him alone in this kind of nightmare.

"Loqi." Ji-eun flipped herself to face him completely, her hand coming to rest on his shoulder. She hovered, but kept a small distance. That had been a lesson hard-learned about waking in a panic. "Loqi, wake up."

He startled awake. Then, after a few moments of her giving him a comforting little shoulder rub, he even swore. That stole a sudden exhale from her, a gentle amusement that made her shake her head.

Good thing she could spring back with fast reflexes. One moment he was coming to, the next he was throwing himself to sit up, and he crawled to the makeshift cot. A small basket, that contained a smaller bundle inside. Serah was still asleep, safe and sound, though undoubtedly she'd stir and utter her hungry cry before too long.

"That didn't sound the same as usual." she commented, now sat up in their bed with her arms hugged around her legs. She spoke while looking to where Serah continued her peaceful sleep. "That one sounded... like one of the worst."

She turned her head and looked to him then. He was melted to the bed, and honestly, he looked wrecked. It was more than a new parent being exhausted. "Talk to me, Loqi." Slowly she lowered back into bed, laid on her side to look him in his eyes. "I have a feeling we're going to be awake a while longer, do you want me to bring some water?"

so it was the easier route. and he wanted to see whether his little brother lied to him or not.

The achievements that Noctis takes the most pride in are the ones most people would consider trivial. Stupid things like setting a new high-score at the arcade, or catching his biggest fish yet.

As the Prince, there are a lot of things that are just expected of him. Things like good grades, improving in combat training – stuff like that. So when he gets good grades or reaches a particular milestone, they just don't feel like achievements because its what's expected of him.

Those words had been uttered from a place of determination. Or perhaps desperation, Millie wasn’t so sure yet. The more she learned about the Seed family in Montana the less she could ignore them.

It had started like an itch. It was there, she had to scratch at it. The surface was scratched away to reveal more. She scratched and she scratched and now what laid out before her was something horrifying and alarming. It was true, she couldn’t stop, not now. She had gone too deep to simply forget about what had been uncovered.

Loqi was the first person she came to. He was involved just enough for the story to interest him, but not so much that he would have a huge reaction... not like Jacob would anyway.

Though his reaction wasn’t one she expected. “What?” Millie asked him, her eyes widened in her surprise. That... his words had been encouraging! Part of her expected he would fight her on this.

This had been all that Aerith had worked towards. The culmination of her relentless study, fast-tracking a course that should have taken a year longer had she been a more sane person.

She was undeniably a Tummelt. Not only had she faced her biggest challenge yet, she came out on the other side with flying colours. It had even forced her to put a lot of her social life on the back-burner much to her parents delight. Straight out of school she hit the ground running with a plan. She wanted to be a nurse, wanted to make a change in the world, and finally she could see that future within her reach.

There was only one thing that hadn’t fallen into place. One single thing she overlooked... how her baby brother would react, now that it was finally here in clear terms.

“You won’t be alone. Mum is going to be glued to you now more than ever.” Aerith offered, her eyes twinkling. It was the best she had to offer. A playful little comment which gave her time enough to think.

Loqi had always been a little bit different. Hardly a judgement, considering her own standing. But there was no denying he had latched on and never let go, always following her, even through her misspent years as a teenager getting into all sorts of trouble.

1. He had no idea where he was. Lucis was big. Too big. And he had managed to get lost on his bike on low fuel, travelling through it in order to track down a few high ranking Lucian military. An undercover mission that was to end with the elimination of the targets.

And 2. the only person around was some creepy older man in the strangest clothes Loqi had ever seen. His car was weird, too. He seemed to be eccentric. Hopefully he wasn’t insane...

Slowly, the young teenager let his bike roll to the side of the parked car, glancing at the guy.

He would have to hide his Nifen accent.

“Excuse me, Sir. Which road will get me to the closest city where I can get fuel?”

Ardyn was lazed in in the back seat of his convertible, head on his coat and feet propped up on the door, when he heard the young man and his motor cycle roll up to the parking spot. He recognized the boy almost immediately from imperial dossier’s he’d read out of Verstael’s labs, and even without that he’d be able to detect the accent. Though the boy did a pretty passible job of copying a Lucian one. 

He pushed his hat up so he could see, and straightened up to show his attention as the boy asked for advice. This seemed like a good idea to have some fun, and keep an eye on him besides. Maybe he’d get the chance to sabotage something, things had been terribly quiet of late. 

“Oh well, if your low on fuel I’m afraid there’s no where your gonna get that little motorbike to Lo-lad.” He said, pulling out an o to reference the young man’s first name. “And in these tumultuous times, well, you don’t want to get caught at night on your own. How about I give you a ride to Hammerhead hmm? The name’s Ardyn, by the way.” 

she’d never been one to favour an actual day off before. there was always something to do - some supplies to go through, some intel to can or rosters to switch around. if it wasn’t something to do with hunting, then back in meldacio it had been a jog across the road to the store.

and right now she felt like it counted for nothing.

toes buried beneath a cushion, kim was lost in her thoughts, mulling over the words that had been exchanged between herself and her grandmother yesterday. one minute, she regretted her blunt honesty, but then she replayed something else and anger flared up ... then the guilt ... then the shame ... then the doubt ... then the anger again, in a vicious cycle.

blinking at loqi’s question, kim pulled her head up from his shoulder - where was she meant to start? preface it by telling him she’d argued with her dad, so he’d gone and told his mom? no kim ... that was mean. but that was how she felt right now.

blowing out a heavy breath, she could feel her chin wobble already and the young woman had to steel herself for a few moments before she trusted her voice enough not to shake.
