what is fakefactory

back in the mid to late 2000s when half-life 2/general source engine modding was HUGE, this dude fakefactory created this visual overhaul that would come to be extremely infamous for changing things that really didn’t need to be changed, like swapping out the soundtrack for more generic “epic” music, going way too hard on AAA graphical effects without trying to preserve the actual atmosphere or style of the game, and most importantly..............the new character models. the very, very, very bad new character models. ESPECIALLY alyx’s character model.

and it just got worse from there:

the mod changed everyone and “upgraded” them to a more “realistic” style which just equated to hitting them with an HD ugly stick and objectifying the female characters so hard it’d give hideo kojima professional jealousy.

it was a big hit amongst horny gamer teens at the time but has since come to be reviled for....obvious reasons. recently i’ve seen some people defending it for the sake of its overall gameplay if viewed as its own separate thing rather than a half-life overhaul but god. nothing can excuse those models.

It does. I’ll be honest, it’s mostly a self esteem thing. The older I get the more desperate I am to make some kind of significant achievement and since I put all my time into art (now that music is kind of just a glorified hobby at this rate) it’s the one shot I have at getting something significant accomplished.
