In you and I there's a new land. Angels in flight. I need more affection than you know. My sanctuary, my sanctuary, yeah. Where fears and lies, melt away. Music will tie. I need more affection than you know. What's left of me, what's left of me, now. My fears, my lies, melt away. I need more affection than you know.
Give me reasons we should be complete. You should be with him I can't compete. You looked at me like I was someone else, oh well. Can't you see? I don't wanna slow dance in the dark, dark.
Here are my pieces from Loop zine volume 1 hosted by @dotzines . I am grateful to be apart of a projected once again, hosted by them and for this to be my first non-fandom project; as the theme was music, I of course wanted to participate. My chosen songs were 'Sanctuary' by Hikaru Utada (you may also know this as the opening song from kingdom hearts 2 and 358/2 days), which is the first drawing and 'Slow Dancing In The Dark' by Joji (who I saw live in his first UK concert, a few years ago and was also my first concert), which is the second. These are my personal favourite songs from the artists and I chose them based on the different feelings they gave me when I listened to them, which I could easily translate the imagery into my art.
Sanctuary has a hopeful and empowering feel, which I represented by an angel outstretching her wings (inspired by the "Angels in flight" from the song), standing on a tall skyscraper in the city, looking over everything. The setting sun (I took inspiration from 358/2 days opening where they show the cutscene at the end of Axel and Roxas on the clocktower at Twilight town, eating ice creams and watching the sunset, for this) shinning over, basking everything in it's light. Slow dancing in the dark has a melancholic and depressing feel, I represented it by a girl in a ball gown, dancing by herself in a moonlit hall under a full moon, while holding a rose. These romantic symbols are undone by the fact she's been shot by an arrow of love (inspired by Joji being pierced by an arrow in the music video for the song) and is dancing by herself with a sad look in her eyes, her rose is even losing its petals. This part is inspired by the song's theme of unrequited love and heartbreak.
