It’s been a super busy week, but I finally got around to finishing the next picture in my character lineup for the FNAF Silent Hill AU described here. This one features Funtime Foxy--who Lia calls “Looksy” as a pun on “Foxy Loxy”--and Puppet. Who is just Puppet because she doesn’t see the point nicknames. Not for lack of trying on Lia’s part, though. I was really looking forward to doing up Looksy’s design because Funtime Foxy is a special boy and he knows it. Although, if you saw the previous picture, you might notice that I forgot his little whisker spots--I remembered them here.
The short summary, as usual, is that when Lia befriended Puppet in Simulator, she just went with it. When Funtime Freddy got ejected from Ennard later, Puppet went with that, too, and kept Funtime Foxy alive long enough to get him a body. Now they’re just kind of both along for the ride. The longer summary is under the cut.
Puppet remembers. She is the keeper, the seer of remnant and all the threads that remnant leads to.
She remembers being Charlie, decades ago. Back when her dad was happy. She remembers being friends with Cassidy and thinking that Michael was a jerk. She remembers Michael’s brother.
She remembers the other Charlie, too. (From Silver Eyes) Their remnant is connected, in spite of being from different realities. That Charlie was a robot. That Charlie knew a Michael who didn’t have a brother, and who became Golden Freddy instead of Cassidy, and who left Elizabeth behind to be jealous.
The remnant is torn, tangled, confused. Cassidy, her Cassidy, who died on the same night that this Charlie became Puppet--this Cassidy sees it, too. She was so angry when Michael’s brother, who no one remembers, died. When Michael and William killed him. Cassidy felt the boy die in fear, and took his fears and shoved them into Michael’s head--and then felt the other Michael, the one who was also Golden Freddy, and they were connected after that. Through the nightmares, through the scooping, through the ages. Puppet watched it happen, and watched as Michael’s connection to the other Michael, the brotherless Michael, the Golden Freddy Michael, made him forget what he did.
Puppet was angry about that at first, too, but the only way to fix it was to untangle Michael’s remnant. She worked for years to free her friends from William’s grasp, and she did the same for Michael’s memory. Subconsciously, he still seemed to remember, since he was so desperate to stop his father and make up for his own sins. But, he didn’t remember why he was so desperate. It made Puppet ache. Puppet remembered. She always remembered, when everyone else forgot.
Then Lia came along, and her remnant was tangled, too, tied to Funtime Freddy’s. She treated Puppet like a person, pulled her out of Lefty--which she understood was her dad trying to help her, but was still upsetting--and fixed her up with a new button and a new hat. Lia let her protect the kids who ate there during the day, and trusted her more than Michael, who couldn’t even remember why he didn’t trust her. Did he even remember her as Charlie, all those years ago?
Lia tried to come up with a nickname for her, but she didn’t see the point. “What about Mary for Marionette?”Â
“I’m a Puppet.”
“Okay, well, how about Poppet, or--”Â
“I’m a Puppet.”
“...Okay then.”
Puppet has this sort of attitude about most things. She is her, and she remembers it all, so who else should she be? It’s Michael who needs to remember, and Molten Freddy is just a tangled mess, and Baby doesn’t even know who she wants to be. Baby tries to mock her for how (in this reality) her dad built her and used her as the new Charlie, before William refurbished her as Circus Baby, before Baby became Elizabeth. But, Puppet remembers being Charlie, and she is her now, so why should she care? She is who she is, and who she needs to be.
It’s how it is in Silent Hill, too. The fire has passed, everyone else is trying to find their place in life, and Puppet is Puppet. Funtime Freddy (Funny, Lia keeps calling him) wants to save his friends by mixing their remnant with the others, which actually ends up untangling Lia a bit. Puppet holds onto Funtime Foxy’s (Lia calls him Looksy) remnant until they can get a suitable monster body for him. Once he’s awake, Puppet watches over him, to make sure he remembers how to be alive, and doesn’t become like the other children she wanted to help.
Looksy is... very enthusiastic. About everything. He acts like it’s all a musical and compares every action to a stage cue. Funny, Lia, and Honey love it, though, and it makes Puppet happy to see them happy. They get into a lot of trouble and Michael is tired of their pranks, but Puppet is pleased, because children pull pranks, and it is good that they have not completely forgotten their childhoods.
The others, the other children, the ones who now inhabit Silent Hill, are like animals. Not her. Puppet is Puppet. Puppet remembers.
She isn’t sure why telling Baby this is so monumental to her, but it ends up making Bay’s twin remnant threads finally intertwine into one, which is good. When the others are so focused on the Ennard escapade that they loose focus, she is the one who reminds them of William, of the one who cut and tangled all of their threads. Michael considers himself the leader, but Puppet is the watcher, the caretaker, she is the one who guides them to their goal. To Cassidy.
Cassidy has let her remnant rot, and Puppet would otherwise be the one to try to salvage it, but Michael is there. Michael does not remember. He talks with Cassidy, who eventually lets them into her pocket dimension to rescue William, and in there are the nightmares that Michael has forgotten. Then he remembers, and his remnant snaps taught, and his brother is out there, somewhere, but that must wait.
Puppet helps Cassidy tether William’s remnant to the Plushtrap doll before she fades away. Then Cassidy is free, and that’s good. But, so is Vanny, and that’s not. Puppet will not allow another William to be created. Puppet will not allow so many other children’s remnants to be snipped, tangled, and rotted. With William’s remnant in Plushtrap, they have a thread connected to his body, which is merged with Vanny. With this connection, Puppet will haunt her dreams.
Puppet remembers. Puppet sees all the remnant still lost and tangled in this city, and it must be addressed, and he is out there, the last Afton child, but he must wait. Puppet cannot allow more remnant to be trapped here on top of what already is. She is who she needs to be.
