There's a certain level of regret that comes with going overdue.
When you're sitting in bed at 42 weeks, exhausted from the energy it took just for you to shift into a sitting position, there's a tiny pang of regret in the back of your mind. When you have to lean back and to the side to give your lungs enough room to inflate, part of you has to wonder if you regret doing this.
You love your baby, you really do, but damn. You have to spread your plush thighs just to let your belly have room when you sit down. It takes you twice as long to walk anywhere as it does anyone else. You're unable to get up or sit down quietly, little grunts and groans accompany every movement you make. It's become muscle memory to pull your shirt down every few minutes when you can feel a slight breeze brush against the bottom side of your low torpedo belly.
The regret's never enough to stop you though. You know that you go overdue every single time you have babies, and yet you don't stop. You were 3 days over with your first, a week with your second, now two weeks with your third. You're already thinking about how far over you'll go with the fourth. You find yourself rubbing your belly and smiling as you think about how big you'll get next time. So while there may be a small part of you that regrets begging your partner to fill you with their babies, that part will never win out.
