A very textury portrait

A subtle difference: on the left is my natural hair (with naturally tapered "fairytale ends"), on the right includes a color-matched parandi / paranda in the longest length I could possibly find. A parandi is an Indian hair extension that's braided in to add length and thickness (and protect the ends of your natural hair) and is usually decorated with tassels although I got a plain version. This piece is still a few inches shorter than the tips of my hair when the knot is attached at the nape of my neck, so it doesn't lengthen my braid but it does subtly thicken it! My hair is wavy and fluffy so it looks thicker when loose, but when I braid it, it really shows how fine it is. What did I need this for, you ask? No real reason. WIP! I found out just today that it’s Muslim Women's Day, and I totally felt compelled to start drawing this despite it being last minute and all. I’m not a Muslim, but I’ve been positively affected by many Muslim women. A recent experience directly inspired this art idea! Stay tuned to see the finished piece and hear more of the story! :)
