"What is that? Are there bandages under your shirt?"
Luc shrugged. âNothing that should concern you.â But the tone of his voice showed he wouldnât mind rather changing the subject.

"Are you hurt anywhere?"
Cass remained where she was in the middle of he bed with her knees against her chest as Eli spoke. âNo.â She slowly shook her head before running her hands over her knees and down the front of her legs. âIâm fine.â

"I was supposed to protect you..."
"You werenât around.â Cass shrugged as she pulled her shirt back on to hide the scar that covered her shoulder blade. âYou canât protect me from everything.â

âWeâre about to close the shop for the night,â Samuel says just as someone stepped into the shop in a hurry, no doubt trying to find shelter from the rain outside. He frowns at how they dripped water onto the floor, he just did a good sweeping after all. A black cat sits up in interest at the unfamiliar face, tail lightly twirling. Sam didnât have a good feeling, though. âIâm sorry, but you have to leave.â

âOkay, but why focus on studying when you can go and do something thatâs actually fun? School is lame anyway, letâs go do something interesting.â

After studying in the library for five hours, and having not slept in over twenty four, Jareth was exhausted. It was becoming exceedingly difficult to stay awake and alert. Sighing, he got up from his chair in one of the private study rooms and began doing jumping jacks to wake himself up. After tiring of that, he began making overly expressive faces to wake up the muscles in his face, and singing in a dramatic operatic-type tone. Feeling like it was kind of working, he continued, forgetting to be watchful for anyone that would pass by. Stopping once he caught a face staring at him, he chuckled in embarrassment before awkwardly stepping out of his study room so that the person could hear him. âHi... Iâm Jareth. Iâm not insane, I promise. Iâm a grad student studying for finals that hasnât slept in 29 hours...â His smile fell as he became serious. âPlease donât call the cops.â

âWell, yeah. I mean-- you're standing right there. Not to mention that, uh, your voice is pretty hard to miss.â And out comes a methodical laugh -- a tell-tale mixture between a huff and a snort that translates into one simple message: I recognize what youâre trying to do, and I do not want to go down this road right now. âI think if anyone needs to hit a blunt, itâs you, my guy. Youâre too fuckinâ tense. Itâs messinâ with my vibe.â
In a shoddy attempt to distract himself from Alexâs drilling stare, he focuses more on his battered fingers and curls them a knuckle at a time. Judging by the slight wince in his expression, theyâre still pretty sore. â--- Just so you know, âchillaxâ was a thing in the early 2000s. Itâs not totally obscure, so... chillax.â
"Why did you do it? Tell me."
â--- No reason.â Thatâs a flat-out lie. One thing to know about Dallas is that thereâs always a method to his madness. Even the most reckless, most impulsive decision works as a catalyst for a result heâs already thought through a thousand times. Sounds a lot like manipulation, sure, but itâs not a strategy based around malicious intent, by any means. Itâs simply the primary functioning of an over-analytical, over-receptive mind. âLook, I donât know why youâre makinâ a big deal out of this, but... chillax, okay?â He shifts the half-melted ice pack over his knuckles, further hiding the swollen bruises. âIâve got my big boy pants on like everyone else.â
