Song Review(s): The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys - “Wanderers Like Me” and “Lonely Pine”

Runnin’ down a rainbow isn’t always about a pot of gold

So sing the Po’ Ramblin’ Boys on “Wanderers Like Me,” one of two singles from the bluegrass quintet that brings old-time mountain music into the present.

It’s underpinned with double bass, acoustic rhythm guitar and banjo that waves like a flag in the wind, with lead mandolin and fiddle rounding out the soundtrack to a self-aware number that both celebrates wanderlust and laments the damage it causes.

“Wanderers Like Me” appears alongside the stylistically similar - but higher and lonesomer - “Lonely Pine.” The former is the more impactful track on account of its lyrics, but both songs are testament to the Po’ Ramblin’ Boys’ commitment to authenticity in the bluegrass universe.
