I think theres a difference between holding bts accountable and completely losing all sense of humanity when talking about them. i genuinely believe people have every right to be angry disappointed uncomfortable or even completely change the way they see bts after this. Especially for armys who have experienced domestic abuse themselves and found comfort and safety in bts and their music and can understand why seeing them attend a CB concert could feel incredibly upsetting or even triggering. nobody should be telling those people that theyre 'overreacting' or that they have to forgive bts just because theyre fans. BUT. at the same time being angry does not justify d3ath threats wishing vi0lence on them telling them to k!ll themselves or sending them disgusting amounts of harassment, you can hold someone accountable without wanting something terrible to happen to them. criticism is not the same thing as harassment, and I think some people are forgetting that distinction.
Also the hypocrisy within kpop spaces needs to be acknowledged. im not saying this to excuse what bts did or to take away from the criticism theyre receiving, because I dont think other idols did it too automatically makes it okaybut CB is not some unknown artist who only bts have ever listened to or interacted with. multiple kpop idols have listened to his music mentioned his songs attended his concerts or otherwise supported his career in some way. TxT have also been to his concert. so if the standard is that attending his concert means someone deserves to be condemned then that standard needs to apply consistently instead of suddenly being brought up only because its bts. and if someone has criticized those other idols in the past too then obviously this point doesn’t apply to them!
none of this means people have to defend bts. I’m not defending their decision to go and i dony think fans should feel obligated to make excuses for them just because they love them sometimes the right thing to do is admit that your favorite did something you dont agree with! You can love the music and still say 'I think this was wrong' you can also decide that this changed how you view them, and nobody has the right to tell you otherwise but there is a point where accountability stops being accountability and becomes cruelty.
this situation is also a reminder that we shouldnt blindly put celebrities on pedestals in the first place. bts can have been an incredibly important source of comfort for people and still make choices that hurt or disappoint those same people. Those two things can exist at the same time.
so yes, hold your favorites accountable , talk about it be angry be disappointed ask them to do better but dont use accountability as an excuse to be hateful or violent
