Sedimenting Grief, Performing Memory invites FLINTA* participants (Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Non-binary, Trans, and Agender people) into a space where movement, speech, and writing intertwine. Writing will be explored through Logomotion, an improvisational method developed by choreographer Simone Forti, in which movement and words emerge spontaneously from a shared source. Movement is understood not only as performance, but as a method of inscription and collective storytelling.

The workshop is part of Tupja’s project Bones Touching Water, which addresses the colonial legacy between Italy and Albania within the broader context of the Southern Mediterranean, centering autobiographical feminist perspectives and collective memory as tools for mourning and confronting systemic injustices—particularly those experienced by migrant women in relation to sexual violence. Through the retelling of the story of Adelina Sejdini—an activist, cultural worker, and survivor of sex trafficking who died by suicide in Rome in 2021—Tupja’s research investigates writing and bodily movement as ways of exploring presence against the erasure of specific marginalized stories.

Tupja has invited Hoffmann to lead a session based on a practice connected both to Simone Forti’s approach to improvisational dance narrative methods and to Hoffmann’s own research on movement scores. Hoffmann’s work focuses on the body as a site of layered, lived experience and as the ontological source for a sense of agency. Materials centered on the story of Adelina Sejdini will be provided as a starting point. Participants will source from their personal existence, their bodies and their connections to Adelina’s story to engage in a performative discursive encounter that speaks of the current moment.

The workshop, lasting 3 hours, is open to 13 participants. It is intended for FLINTA* participants (Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Non-binary, Trans, and Agender people). Participation is especially encouraged for members of the Albanian community, the Albanian diaspora, and people with a migration background. No professional experience is required. Exercises will be conducted in Italian and English.

Endi Tupja is a visual artist whose practice focuses on experimenting with strategies of memory recuperation, visuality, and the subverted geographies that shape identity and history. Her current research in moving image and performance inquires the possibilities of the personal able to magnify the collective narratives of mirroring empires, specifically in the colonial legacies between Italy and Albania. Tupja was an Artist Research Grant recipient at the Center For Advanced Studies South East Europe University of Rijeka. Her video work has been shown in film festivals in Kosova, Mexico, UK, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Taipei etc. Tupja has exhibited among others at Silent Green (Berlin), SEA Foundation (Tilburg), iMAL (Brussels), the Kyiv Biennial 2021, MARKK Hamburg, Onassis Stegi(Athens), Beursschouwburg (Brussels), The National Gallery of Kosova (Prishtina).
