Growing up in NYC was a blessing and a curse for Vaughn Matthias. As such a big city, there was a plethora of opportunities for him growing up. However, it was also the city that almost tore his life apart.

Being lucky to have two parents that love one another as well as their children, the family relationships he had with his loved ones was strong. But the financial issues they faced cracked them, threatened to tear them apart.

His father was a writer for a local magazine, nothing that really brought in enough money. His mother stayed at home taking care of the kids while working night shifts at the 24 hour diner down the road from their shabby apartment. Both of these incomes not being enough to support the expensive lifestyle that resides in NYC, Vaughn worked as soon as he turned 14 and hasn’t stopped since then. With several jobs as well as helping take care of his beloved younger, spunkier, and smarter little sister, his hands were tied. And, not having the money to move to a state where the living is a little cheaper, he’s been stuck working his ass off.

Despite being one of the sweetest and fun-loving, big-hearted hunk of loves you will ever meet, Vaughn inherited his grandmother’s anger management issues and mild bipolar disorder. Unfortunately, when things were getting out of hand or life was throwing obstacle after obstacle at his feet, he’d let his demons get the best of him. Suddenly, his true self transformed into an alternative version, where he gets into street fights over the tiniest of things, loses jobs left and right, breaks up relationships and friendships with the people in his life. And, not having the money to afford medication, the better-than-nothing therapy hardly helped his case.

Therefore, a lot of his childhood was work, fight, survive. Not that there weren’t wonderful moments in between- his sister as his best friend and the few close friends as well as many acquaintances he did acquire from his charismatic personality made his life worth living. So he fought and fought and fought for the next moment he could listen to music with his eyes gently closed or a nice dinner with his family stress-free.

Having been skateboarding since he was a little boy, Vaughn used that as his escape. Next to his love for music and sketching once in a while, he used his passions to help suppress the things that made his world darker.

Despite the rougher side of town he lived on and the not-so-perfect household and family life he had, it was rather difficult to say goodbye to the people he’d been working so hard for when college came around. Because how could he work for himself now when all he’s ever done was work for the ones he loves?

However, he did fit well into this new world college offered him. With his passionate and adventurous personality, life became a little bit brighter. He still suffers from his disorders and from time to time he lets it get to him, but the biggest blessing he has ever had was that acceptance letter to Lockwood.

With a passion for music production and recording, Vaughn hopes to be a music producer and/or roadie for the rock bands he’s grown up loving like best friends.

He’s a big nerd for old school video games, movies, and music. He likes a lot of old school classics and that reflects in his style and how he presents himself.

He’s… a bit of a stoner since that’s what he was around a lot growing up with friends who skated and also it suppressed his anger.

Vaughn has a heart of GOLD but if he’s going through a tougher time, his demons come out and it gets…. very bad. He did do a lot of street fighting after all and he’s not proud of it.

At the end of every day he calls his little sister or at least texts her (she’s in high school still)

Unless if he really doesn’t get along with someone, Vaughn will bug and bother and annoy everyone until they crack a smile at him or at least like him. He’s got a weird thing with people where he loves their company and he loves the attention (most of the time) but he just can’t stand it if someone simply doesn’t like him. He has had enemies though.

He isn’t the absolute Best student, so whenever he needs to make the grade he usually has to work twice as hard as his fellow peers. Also, he usually doesn’t have any motivation unless it has to do with his major.

He falls in love… so easily. With everything. He has so much love to give and share so it’s rather upsetting for him to go through an episode where he transforms into that “other” Vaughn.

viridian is the daughter of a politician and his wife. surprisingly, he father is actually pretty chill. he’s a democratic senator. viri is an only child who grew up in seattle, washington. from a young age, she was practically raised a princess, but her parents quickly found out that she hated the norms of little girls her age. unsurprisingly, green was her favorite color. she was loved as a child, practically smothered in love and attention.

when viri was nine, she and her mother got into a really bad car accident. her mother died instantly, but viri managed to survive. a piece of shrapnel from the car lodged directly into her ear, causing her to go deaf in her one ear. it took her a long time to recover from the rest of the injuries, but by then her mother had already been buried. devastated, viri and her father both went into a depressive state. 

luckily, after a few years, the two of them got back on their feet with a new norm. viridian was sent to a boarding school for high school. she already knew she loved being outside and loved science, so it wasn’t a far fetch for her to begin thinking of a career in paleontology, as she loved dinosaurs growing up. 

surprise came her junior year when her father had met someone and gotten engaged. while her new step-mom-to-be was friendly enough, she had two children who automatically didn’t like her the moment they met. obviously sensing that she was daddy’s little girl. while they never did anything over the top, they did slide snide comments into conversation whenever viri was around. she did her best to ignore them however, choosing instead to be friendly. 

viri graduated in the top of her 1% class and had been accepted into lockwood. she was excited to go off to college, even though it would be an adjustment. new york was very far away from washington state and even her high school had been located in the same state as her father. however, she did adjust quickly. she’ll be a sophomore in the fall.

so, he grew up in this small, conservative texan town with his mother debbie, his father frank, and his older sister abby. his mother taught elementary school and was the picture of encouragement, positivity, and vivacity. you got a shitty drawing? it’s going to be drowned in compliments and put on the fridge. his father was almost like debbie’s polar opposite. he was quiet, kinda broody, had obnoxious muttonchops, occasionally verbally abusive. they seem like an odd couple from the outside. as for the siblings, abby and seth’s relationship growing up was a bit strained due to a sizable age gap, but he loves her and his niece very much.

he lost the weight by joining the swim team his senior year of high school and still swims competitively at lockwood. he’s also pretty into music and can play guitar and ukulele. he can sing a little, but he'd describe his voice as far from amazing.

his main passion is psychology, and his dream job is to become a therapist and make a difference. partially due to his own struggles with mental illness, his fascination with the subject, and a latent desire to repay society for his birth father’s doings. it’s just pretty close to his heart tbh. he also has a tendency to psychoanalyze the shit out of everyone in his head.
