I had a wonderful day yesterday shooting outdoors with @corlettphotoart spending time in my garden and then finishing up at Loch Earn where he had found the most beautiful little scenic spots. So, this is a found film that I decided to develop as it was (rather than running it through again for some double exposure fun!) I'm pretty glad I did as the resulting shots are quite fab and a lovely little moment in history replayed for the very first time in 70 years. So, some time ago I bought a batch of Ilford HP3 film which I took to just be expired. As it turned out the rolls were also exposed and according to the scribbles on the boxes they where shot and exposed in July 48 (possibly 46 but one number is obscured). That's 1948! The film expired in March 1960 and Ilford stopped making HP3 in the late 1960s replacing it with HP4. I've had HP3 developed before (again a found film from an old family camera and was so pleased with the results I sought out some for my own use). However, on this occassion I decided to develop them at home as part of my getting back into developing. By chance my Johnson developing tank had instructions on temperature and times for HP3 so I gave it a whirl. 21 degrees for 9.5 minutes at a ratio of 1+24. I fixed the film as I would do normally (1+9 for 5 minutes). And here's one of the resulting images. From the roll I can identify that these where probably taken on a family vacation to Loch Earn as the hotel in the pictures was the Auchraw Hotel, Lochearnhead which may indicate some of the other shots are taken in and around the area. Yet another reason to love this find as Loch Earn is about an hours drive from me and the film was bought in Jersey!
