The Escobar neighborhood is the one thing that Medellín can’t leave behind. Although they have been trying to erase Escobar’s violent stamp on their history, this neighborhood is a constant reminder of what once was. It was originally called Medellín Without Shanty Towns, but quickly became Barrio Escobar, as he was the one who funded the construction of hundreds of homes for the poor. Not only does it have Escobar’s imagery throughout, but also the people that live in this neighborhood are grateful to Escobar for giving them a place to live. The residents continue to keep the idea of a Paisa Robin Hood alive.
