And as usual, Lokal is psychic (xe naturally gets visions in dreams) and xyr sleep is a mess – whether this is a consequence of the psychic dreams or if the dreams are just aggravating an existing issue is impossible to say, but for all practical intents and purposes, Lokal has narcolepsy.

Every once in a while, class consists of 108 putting on a video while Lokal naps.

Prof. Lokal was exiled a long time ago and hates the surface, so xe’s generally just kind of quietly resentful of everyone who isn’t 108, cynical and prickly with an air of bitter superiority that makes xem tough to get close to. Xe’s… better than xe used to be. It’s a process.

There isn’t very much Prof. Lokal content that isn’t already on toyhouse tbh. xD But I did find this Thing That Probably Happened When AU 108 First Got A Body scribble:

The body is grown from a combination of genetic material taken from humans and from various insectoid species, and infant bugs bond symbiotically with this body and eventually become the being’s mind, while a mechanical stabiliser is used to keep the bug’s psionics from absorbing and transforming the body to an energy state. (though when they get especially emotional, psychically powerful bugs might rile up their psionics enough to override the stabiliser and manifest extra eyes and limbs anyway).

The body is supposed to make them more solid, so they can interact with physical stuff more easily, and it also focuses their psionics, muting some manifestations so that each bug gets a specific role with specific powers -- of course there’s a bit of a caste system based on what role you’ve been assigned. Psionics are draining for a physical body, so psychic-heavy bodies are low caste; high caste bugs have almost no powers.

Despite the fact that physical bodies are literally built to hamper them and make them tired, most bugs would be uncomfortable in their natural form; they’ve known their physical body all their lives and feel lost, vulnerable, and psychically out of control without it.

Local Affirmative xyrself is a “forecaster” -- that third eye means xe gets glimpses of the future, so xe’s in charge of reporting news and omens and can also serve as a strategist in takeover efforts. Normally, the forecaster shares only favourable visions with the public and privately reports the more concerning ones to the authorities. Local….was not as good at that second part.

At some point xe was assigned to a human-colonised planet, received a lot of concerning visions, emphatically prophesied nothing but doom for the bugs’ assault on humanity, and was immediately let go and cut out of the hivemind. Local’s sort of stranded on earth now but has decided to believe that if xe just proves xyrself useful enough, they’ll give xem another chance.
