!major spoiler of JoJolion final chapter, stop if you havenât read it!
What was Tooru actually doing in that chapter? I initially thought that it looked like he was planting Locacaca plants near Higashikataâs orchard. But then, where are the plants now? Why don't I see it in Higashikataâs orchard at present time (2011)?
Didn't the Higashikata family through Jobin get the Locacaca plant from Damokan Group who smuggled it from New Guinea? Why didn't Jobin just harvest them from his orchard? Seems that the plants Tooru planted are long gone, then whatâs the point of him planting them in 1941?? Why have they gone?
At least that was what I thought initially.
But then, according to Tooruâs wikipage:
Then in JJL chapter 110âs wikipage:
Did he really plant Locacaca on the Higashikataâs orchard?
Or did he actually take Locacaca plant growing on the Higashikataâs orchard into a bucket and walk away with it?
Before we continue, let's first check whether it is actually Moriohâs hunting ground or Higashikataâs Orchard!
Now, letâs take a look at his scene in chapter 110:
JJL chapter 110: The Radio Gaga Incident - part 2
He brought a shovel and a bucket, of course the shovel was for digging the ground. Inside the bucket were Locacaca plants and he walked away with a bucket containing those plants!
Therefore it makes more sense if we conclude that he took Locacaca plants away from Higashikataâs orchard. But if so, doesn't that mean that the plants (once) grew there? Then who planted it there and how did its history come to be? To the point that the news reached Lucy and invited her to visit thereâŚ
According to the Timeline Log, Locacaca was discovered by Australians in New Guinea in 1938, the plants may have grown there long before that.
If Locacaca was already in Japan (more precisely on Higashikataâs orchard) around the 1940s, then someone must have brought it from New Guinea. Could it be Tooru who brought it from there?
Then why did he bring it to Japan, or more precisely, plant it on Higashikata's orchard?
JJL chapter 109: The Radio Gaga Incident â part 1
JJL chapter 99: Endless Calamity â part 5
Could this be Tooru's initial attempt to create the New Locacaca?
But why did he dig the plants out and take them away in a bucket?
Perhaps his experiment had failed, considering that the New Locacaca was created not by planting Locacaca directly in miraculous ground, but by grafting it with plants that have grown on that ground.
It's as if he got rid of Locacaca from Japan until finally allowing Damokan Group with their smuggling job to bring the fruits back to Japan, to the Higashikata family (through Jobin).
But what is the use of the smuggling team (Damokan Group)?
This might sound like a very well orchestrated masterplan, but that seemingly useless Damokan Group becomes very useful! Perhaps this is what Tooru planned carefully after he failed to create his own New Locacaca:
Using Damokan Group to collaborate with ambitious Jobin, which indirectly gives Higashikata access to Locacaca.
Ruining Raiâs family business, which led Rai with his talent in horticulture to work with the Higashikata family, a family that possesses a ground with unique property (equivalent exchange). He might had intended to direct Rai to that ground and make him cultivate âa whole new type of Locacacaâ there.
Using Holy as the test subject, perhaps to lure her to do scientific analysis of Locacaca.
Introducing Kira Yoshikage to Locacaca via Damokan Group, leading him and Kujo Josefumi (an agricultural student) to create a new variant where the fruit has evolved into The âNew Locacacaâ.
Those four events may have happened by 'coincidence', but considering how Tooruâs Stand works, he can manipulate 'coincidences' at some point through calamity because...
TL;DR Tooru was planting Locacaca on Higashikataâs orchard with its ground possess miraculous ability, perhaps in an attempt to create The New Locacaca⌠but decided not to and move on to the next plan which eventually becomes the events of JoJolion story.
Also, Lucy's death caused by lung disease without completing her research on Locacaca could have been caused by calamity due to her trying to pursue Tooru.
EDIT:
Itâs like if there was only one company capable of producing electricity. The entire world would be beholden to them.
Now I just realized, which the company this anon #227025482 might have referred to? Shinra Electric Power Company LOL
