Virgo Doll Diaries #13
Starting locs and the journey of self-love
hello, hello, beautiful people. I am here with a new life update for you guys. I don't think there's anybody really reading these to be honest but in my mind you are.
So I have always grew up hating my natural hair, for reference I never had bad hair, I just grew up thinking I did. I had thick black 4c hair that was tightly curled, could see the definition or anything.
So I just felt lost in my natural hair journey. I never wore my hair out, always braided, pressed, or in faux locs that became my signature look. After putting my faux locs in I got a lot of comments on how I should start my own locs. I never did for my own personal reasons. Now that it’s been a week with my locs I have made a complete 180 on my whole idea of this loc journey. Almost all of my fears were knocked out so I’ll list some and if I think of anything else I’ll add them to my next journal entry.
1) starter locs are ugly.
This is soooo untrue. I might be biased my hair wasn’t the shortest when I began. I’d be able to put it in a top puff and even with locs I can make the very simple n small pineapple. But my love for my locs have grew. First day I was shy and scared wore my scarf but after a couple days I realized…. These are so cute and easy. I envisioned a life of no extensions, wigs, or lifting lace. It felt like a dream. My only complaint is I should’ve left my hair black but other than that I love it.
2) you’ll look/feel less feminine
This was a big thing for me as my femininity plays a huge role in my life, as a women. I love feeling girly and being able to not look or feel masculine and honestly it hasn’t been a huge issue…. The first day was hard but to help my confidence I added some jewelers my hair I began accessorizing more. I got my toes done. Pretty much everything outside of my hair. Hair doesn’t define your femininity. Your aura, voice, and most importantly mentality, defines your femininity.
3) people won’t like it
BIG BIG BIG LIE. personally I love my hair but I was scared of judgement/feedback. I’m a Virgo so I tend to judge other but myself, I am the judge, jury, & lawyer. Another thing is I love being complimented and feeling pretty. So this was a huge worry that, that attention or validation would stop. And I must say I’ve never felt more beautiful! I feel like knowing everything is natural I’m not hiding behind a wig or length I’m just being organic it makes the beauty shine brighter. But as far as compliments I received sooooo many nice words about my hair as far as like the style, length, or how good it looks on me.
Now I know everybody’s different but I’m a girl who hasn’t worn her natural hair out, frl, in about 3 years!! No silk presses, no puffs just protective style after protective style. I didn’t even give my hair time to breathe. And I feel like all of that really takes a toll on my overall mental health and everything. I’ll touch more and make a “loc series” but I really love the spiritual aspect and the aspect of being able to wake up and just look like me.
