thinking about the lloydconnell dynamic again...
in the way that IBYFS can be broken down, there's this sense in the demos that Jason is everything Matt wants to be but ISN'T
and they way they're played off one another in b;apo (particularly Portrait Of A Girl in contrast to Touch My Soul, also Reputation Stain'd to a degree) leans more into this concept that Jason is everything Matt is, only better
and somewhere in the mess of characterization decisions made in B:TM, they manage to show me this dynamic, where Jason is everything Matt hates, instead (in the sense of they really diminish the way their rivalry is this all-encompassing thing and Matt's vindictiveness in Promise really does come down to all the bad shit that Jason actually does re; mess around with people's feelings, this layer of insincerity in everything that he projects outwards, his overall selfishness, etc. etc.)
