Five-lined Skink (Plestiodon fasciatus) in Pinery Provincial Park, May 2017. One of my most incredible encounters was spotting this small head poking above a billboard by a bathroom in Pinery Provincial Park. The head belonged to Ontario's only species of Lizard. I believe this individual is an adult Male, because he has lost the stripes of juveniles and also the bright blue colour of his tail. These Skinks, when threatened, can drop their own tail as a distraction for predators (especially effective considering the tail continues to move for several minutes). The tail will grow back, but tail loss isn't without a cost, as the tail contains reserves of fat that will have to be regained. Endangered in Ontario, mostly because it exists in small, isolated populations, this amazing animal was a treat to see! . . . . . . . #nature #ontario #fivelinedskink #plestiodonfasciatus #natureontario #lizard #skink #skinksofinstagram #lizardsofinstagram #ontariosonlylizard #herpsdaily #ontarioreptiles #ontarioherps #pineryprovincialpark #pinerypp #pinerypark #canada_wildlife #natureperfection #lizardphotography #natureinontario #nature_captures #endangeredspecies (at Pinery Provincial Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CO5BuZigAOF/?igshid=1fs33o65gqzn9
We found a baby gecko in one of our moving boxes. We caught him and I kept him overnight because I wanted to show dad. I named him George. But I decided to let him go because I wouldn’t be able to keep him happy since I don’t have anything that he needs. He appreciated it, but now I’m sad. Goodbye George. Maybe we will meet again soon. 💚🦎 (Old photo from my insta)
Badass Lizard - Copyright 2017 Troy Green ebin.media
I was hiking pretty deep into the woods and found this guy on the trail. Â I thought he was dead at first. Â Just look at him. Â He's got a hole in his neck with bone exposed and claw marks all over his body.
He was alive. Â The power of nature. Â This badass is running around with a hole in his head. Â No crying, no bitching and moaning, just doing lizard shit till the day he dies and he ain't dead yet. Â Inspirational if you think about it.

When the wildlife pays a visit.
Season of lizard. At least where my neck of the woods is at.
— It’s not spring yet so fack off!
Old grumpy lizard not ready for spring it seems.
He’s the grumpy old man lizard that tells the neighborhood kids to get off of his grass.
