I don’t believe we only find the ones we’re meant to love once.

I think somewhere, beyond time and beyond memory, our souls make promises to each other. Mine promised yours that no matter how many lives it took, I would always come looking for you.

Maybe in one lifetime, you’re still my little gray cat with too many toes, curling up beside me after the hardest days, reminding me that home isn’t a place. It’s a heartbeat beside your own.

Maybe in another, you’re a stray waiting outside my door, and I recognize you before my mind even understands why. I kneel down, call you over, and somehow you already know my voice.

Maybe we’re born into different worlds entirely. Different names. Different faces. Different stories. Yet somehow, our paths always cross. Because love like ours doesn’t get lost. It just waits to be found again.

You were never “just a cat.” You were comfort when the world was too loud. You were my safe place when everything else was falling apart. You carried pieces of my heart without ever asking for them, and when you left, you took a part of me with you.

But I don’t think goodbye was ever meant to be forever.

So if there are a thousand lifetimes after this one, I’ll spend every single one searching for you. I’ll look for the eyes that make me feel at peace. I’ll look for the soul that feels like home. I’ll look for the little signs that tell me, “There you are. I’ve found you again.”

And every time I do, I’ll choose you.

Every lifetime.

Every universe.

Every version of me.

I’ll always find my way back to you.
