Even though this school year is not what I hoped it would be (for the kids, their teachers, my students, me, etc.), I trust Peters Elementary and Union Public Schools to take care of my kiddos. We had a great #meettheteacher day today. I got to visit the rooms and see the creative ways these educators are working to protect and teach our kids. I have been incredibly anxious about my kids and their teachers returning to the classroom, even though I know we all really want it to happen. I do feel much better today, watching the kids interact with their teachers, show so much enthusiasm to go back to school, and largely wearing their masks correctly and taking safety precautions seriously (at least as seriously as these two silly billies take anything). Both our babies are going to big kid school this year. #LittleLiam is admittedly very scared to be away from us (after spending almost every day with his sister and me for the last five months). And #GraceFace has been so emotional lately I can only assume the stress of living through this pandemic is really getting to her. I will always worry about the safety of my kids (and, let’s be real, all of us right now). But after watching Grace guide Liam through school, holding his hand, explaining how things work, remembering her days in his pre-k classroom (same teacher 🙌), etc., I know they have each other, along with the amazing faculty and staff at Peters. So this post is a celebration of the year to come. Who knows what will happen in the coming days, weeks, months? I do know my family loves each other and will support it other through difficult times, no matter what. And I’m pretty damn proud of these two kids of mine. Here’s to a wonderful school year filled with growth, learning, love, and compassion, and lots of fun.
