i know i just mentioned it in my other mini-rant but i'm still not over the way the vermillion wasteland evotars are just in red tape purgatory indefinitely. what do you mean we went on that whole epic rescue mission just for them to get shoved onto a storage medium somewhere for however many months or years it takes to convince instatainment to get them back into the game. what do you mean luke and c'tron got to be woken up because they were Lea's Important Friends but not any of the others who were there

prepare to hi having new dialogue ONLY for PvP battles is baffling to me because it confirms that:
-we are playing the timeline where lea never dies to enemies despite the presence of a diegetic respawn mechanic (i headcanon that this is because lea retains her epic gaming muscle memory)
-the other characters are aware that lea dies in one hit during PvP battles but apparently don't notice that outside of PvP battles she never gets hit ever (i got nothing on this one. hey do you guys wanna hear about my au where lea is in a time loop)
crosscode i love you with all my brain cell but i will never be okay with the scene on the m.s. solar after vermillion wasteland. my girl just experienced her friend being ripped away from her right after he helped her through the most traumatic revelation of her life and their idea of lightening the mood is the ship's crew dumping water on her and letting a small child yeet her around the ship without her consent
When Lea is ruthlessly attacked by the normally passive enemies of Autumn's Rise, Sergey is concerned but ultimately has to dismiss it as yet another bug. Lea herself is a whirl on the battlefield, weaving around attacks flawlessly and striking with a certainty that makes him long for better times. For about a day, he assumes she simply retained Shizuka's muscle memory and lets the nostalgia drive him to keep looking.
When Lea duels the grass-headed Spheromancer and dies in one hit - but is somehow able to best him anyway - Sergey starts to have questions. Once he starts looking for it, he increasingly realizes that she never takes a single hit. She throws herself off cliffs to avoid attacks, seems to blindly leap at enemies half the time, sometimes flinches when crossing a map boundary (What?), but she never gets hit. Not even once.
(Emilie comments on both Lea's ferocity and how peaceful it was to explore a bit of Bergen Trail by herself. At this point, she is under the assumption that being in a party makes enemies more aggressive.)
When Lea's reaction to being abducted from the raid is to spend several minutes contemplating the best way to min-max her equipment before shredding through two of the blue interloper's health bars in succession, Sergey has to say something. But at that point, everything starts happening at once, and he never gets the chance to bring it up.
He would have never been able to guess what was actually going on anyway.
so about that time loop au i mentioned. more rambling under the cut
au where lea gets the bad ending (banned by instatainment) and makes a deal with the devil* to go back to the beginning and secure the future... by achieving 100% completion in crossworlds. under the condition that every attack instantly kills her and sends her back in time to when she entered the room.
*unspecified entity that gives people crappy revival deals for fun or something idk it just needed a justification
from everyone else's point of view, lea is constantly tearing shit up without ever dying or even getting hit at all. this would be impressive and only a little bit concerning if it weren't for the fact that she doesn't want to be here and is not having fun.
this is based on my actual prepare to hi + hostile habitat + no mercy run that i'm attempting to 100% because my favorite hobby is torturing myself in video games. this au lives in my brain while i play. i am currently getting all the chests in gaia's garden before i do the grand krys'kajo

this is my crosscode oc, pollux. he's an evotar created from apollo's first crossworlds account and he was in vermillion wasteland for a While. he has many many mental health problems from his extended confinement and also a ton of angst surrounding his relationship with apollo, who has everything he ever wanted while he has nothing. he's (probably) not gonna have an evil clone arc over it or anything but he's not in a good mental place in the slightest
imagine being trapped in a video game and knowing you have a real life but being unable to remember it.
imagine briefly entertaining the thought that maybe there is no "real life", maybe you're just a ghost in the literal machine and this is all there is.
imagine speaking optimistically about it, asking if it really matters, because it's easy to say things like that when it's only a scary hypothetical and a part of you is still convinced that you can get out of here and go back to your normal life.
imagine waking up and finding out that not only is that scary hypothetical your real life now, you've been out of commission for seven months while a bureaucratic battle was fought for you and multiple friends' right to exist.
imagine finding out that the person you thought you were is waiting for you in the other room and you just have to walk out that door and pretend it doesn't bother you.
imagine adjusting to a life bound by the mechanics of a hyper-immersive MMORPG while struggling to reconcile your sense of identity with the fact that your personhood and everything that makes you you has always belonged to someone else.
imagine grappling with all of this while being in regular contact with your original and continuously recalling bits and pieces of their life as if it were your own.
guys can you tell who my favorite crosscode character is
something that stands out to me about the whole evotarground operation is that torturing people is not an effective or reliable method of gathering information under normal circumstances. i headcanon that evotars can suffer from other psychological "glitches" besides complete malfunction so who knows, maybe that does work on them.
the other possibility is that the information sidwell was selling is inaccurate, which would imply that he either didn't go out of his way to verify it or the first evotar he tried it on happened to both recall the desired information accurately and tell the truth about it. in this scenario, that first victim would have simultaneously doomed dozens to potentially hundreds of future evotars to the same fate and epically pranked sidwell. get fucked lmao
