please give us vampire biology in litany, like do the sleep! are they stronger than average as is in the myths? do they have venom or special powers! and i LOVE how velvet eden is described to be more of a religion because IT FITS SO WELL
ohh this is such a fun question! heres the rundown:
sleep — it's not a necessity to survive, more of a habit or choice. it helps them with emotional regulation, mental clarity, feeling human. gyu gets sleepy and sleeps lightly but often, especially after emotional/mental strain (like working a big case, or feeding off reader!!) it keeps him sharp. some older vampires can go dormant for weeks, months. gyu is younger so he holds onto a lot of human habits, too.
strength — this is like one of the things i wanted to play into especially with mingyu because mingyu in real life is already in the business of forgetting that his limbs are long and that he's got big biceps (exhibit a: mingyu accidentally throwing vernon's legs so far in the air he almost breaks his spinal cord 😭😭😭) so it's canon that he accidentally shuts doors too hard, and did once grip his fresh coffee so hard that the paper cup gave out. reader asks him to open jars and bottles of wine. but with people, especially reader, he's precise. hyper-aware. she'll never not be shocked by the way he picks her up like she weighs little more than the average pen. piggybacks? effortless.
venom — some do have a form of venom—biochemical compounds delivered through saliva during feeding. these include natural anticoagulants (to keep blood flowing) and mild euphoric agents that can heighten pleasure or calm. the aphrodisiac effect some vampires produce—like mingyu—isn’t intentional, but it’s real, especially in trusted, intimate feeds. older or more experienced vampires often have stronger or more specialized chemistry, though the full extent of that varies and isn’t always known to the public.
vampires in litany are technically dead—but functionally alive in very specific ways. they don’t need to breathe, though many—like gyu—still do out of habit or to assimilate in human settings. his breathing does change with physical exertion or emotional response, but it’s not vital to survival. vampires have no heartbeat, no pulse, and no natural body heat—but temperature varies between individuals. some are corpse-cold, others (like mingyu) are warmer, especially after feeding. still noticeably cooler than a human, but to reader, he’s warm.
and on eden, thank you so much!!! i’m so glad that’s coming across—velvet eden is absolutely meant to feel like more than a club. when i first came up with this fic and i told my best friend about it she asked me what kind of club eden was, and i was like "idk it just needs to make u wanna fuck in public" 😭 even in early chapters, i wanted it to read as deeply sensory, almost sacred in how it wraps around the people inside it. the lighting, the music, the way touch and sound are used—everything is deliberate. it’s meant to feel borderline voyeuristic, to blur the line between pleasure and devotion, intimacy and power. even our leads—who know there’s something darker under the surface—aren’t immune to how affecting the experience is. that’s why it works. that’s what makes it dangerous. i've been listening to this playlist i made while writing to help me curate the vibe! when i was writing their first appearance in chapter one i specifically had sucia by kehlani in mind because that song sounds like,, borderline snake-charming to me and if i walked into velvet eden and heard that i too would buss it open with little questions

ahh i’m so glad ur curious! i touch on it in chapter 12 sort of briefly, and maybe a little bit more down the track. you’ve nailed gyu’s character though! the crux of him is sort of just… someone trying every day to be good when the world so desperately is searching for his fault line, and how he clings to his humanity. when writing gyu i often think of that quote: “everything i’ve ever let go of has claw marks on it”.
also thank you for this!! it’s always very intentional. eyeee personally sit on the autism spectrum and everything in life is very sensory heavy to me and i find it’s really fun to translate into writing. i love sitting and imagining what a scene smells like, sounds like, the textures. it’s been especially fun with the earlier club scenes at eden (esp because i work in a trashy nightclub so i was very familiar with what i DIDN’T want to convey LMAO).
i’ve had this feedback a couple of times and i’m really flattered that it translates because sometimes with writing i spend So long on something that eventually it starts to feel quite flat to me (this chapter i struggled with that especially which is why i asked my lovely friend bree to beta-read, i needed a fresh pair of eyes desperately). not to get deep but i always grew up thinking there was just something inherently wrong with how i experienced the world but understanding how my brain works in recent years has made writing a very very fun experience!
